In the late match of the 9th round of the English Premier League, Tottenham hosted Fulham at home. Ange Postecoglou's team continued their impressive form thanks to the duo of Son Heung-min and James Maddison. The victory against Fulham helped them reclaim the top spot in the table after two days of being overtaken by Man City.
Tottenham and Fulham started the match with great enthusiasm. In the 2nd minute, James Maddison played a through ball to Son Heung-min, who raced down the wing to take a shot. However, goalkeeper Bernd Leno rushed out in time to narrow the angle for the South Korean player.
Son Heung-min continues to score goals for Tottenham.
Fulham were not to be outdone. They responded with two consecutive shots from Joao Palhinha and Carlos Vinicius, but the visitors couldn't find the net.
The home team persistently attacked and pressed, while Fulham opted for a defensive counter-attacking style. The visitors only held out until the 36th minute. Tottenham players organized a siege during an opponent's build-up play. The ball reached Maddison, and the midfielder assisted Son Heung-min to score.
Tottenham's second goal also came from a similar situation. In the 54th minute, Calvin Bassey made a misplaced pass, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg intercepted the ball and passed it early to Son Heung-min. The South Korean player then assisted Maddison for the goal.
The two goals conceded demoralized Fulham, while Tottenham played with renewed enthusiasm. However, the home side were unable to extend their lead as opportunities slipped away from Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison.
