For about a week now, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hao's family (Tan Tien 2 village, Truong Luu commune) has been struggling with water from the Ngan Truoi canal flooding their property. At times, the water level rose to 50-70 cm, submerging their yard, livestock pens, and many other living areas.

Mr. Hao stated that this situation has been ongoing for many years and usually occurs during the peak water supply period for production, from approximately February to July each year.
"My family owns over 2,000 square meters of garden land, mainly used for growing vegetables, fruit trees, and raising pigs and chickens. However, whenever water from the canal overflows, almost all production activities come to a standstill. Transportation is very difficult, and the livestock pens are frequently flooded. During the recent flooding alone, my family lost one pig and about 30 chickens due to prolonged submersion in water," Mr. Hao shared.

According to Mr. Hao, the cause of the flooding is due to the large volume of water channeled through the Ngan Truoi canal to serve irrigation for the summer-autumn crop, which increased in successive bursts, overflowing the flood drainage culvert about 50 meters from his house and flooding the residential area.
"The households have repeatedly petitioned the local authorities and the irrigation project management unit to address the issue, but the situation has not been resolved completely," Mr. Hao said.
Not only has the prolonged flooding affected production, but it has also caused many difficulties in people's daily lives. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (Tan Tien 2 hamlet, Truong Luu commune) shared: "Water from the canal overflows and mixes with water from the fields, gardens, and livestock pens, causing severe environmental pollution. At times, the water flooded the kitchen, toilet, and livestock pens, disrupting the lives of the whole family. We earnestly hope that the authorities will soon inspect the situation and find solutions to help people stabilize their lives."

Not far away, Mr. Pham Van Hien's family also faced a similar situation. Water from the canal overflowed, flooding their livestock area and gardens, causing many inconveniences in their daily lives.
Mr. Hien shared: "Stagnant water not only causes environmental pollution but also poses a risk of bacterial and disease outbreaks, affecting the health of family members. In particular, the family's well water has been almost unusable for many years because the water quality is affected whenever flooding occurs."

According to a reporter's observations on the afternoon of July 1st, water from the Ngan Truoi canal overflowed into the residential area, flooding the homes of approximately 5 households in Tan Tien 2 village. Compared to previous days, the water level has receded significantly but still fluctuates between 30-40 cm. Many sections of the roads leading to people's homes remain submerged, making travel mainly by wading through water or using rudimentary means of transportation.
According to local residents, flooding occurs cyclically whenever the irrigation sector increases the water supply for agricultural production. Despite this problem having persisted for many years, there is still no definitive solution.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Phan Thanh Cong, a specialist from the Economic Department of Truong Luu Commune People's Committee, said: "The flooding has been occurring since the Ngan Truoi irrigation system was put into operation 5 years ago. Immediately after receiving feedback from residents, professional staff directly inspected the site. The local authorities have compiled the current situation and requested the Ha Tinh Irrigation Company Limited to promptly inspect and rectify the problem to limit water inundation into residential areas. The handling needs to be comprehensively planned to both address the flooding for households and ensure water supply for summer-autumn crop production in the area and other regions benefiting from the canal system."

Having to "live with floods" for many consecutive years, even in the middle of summer, residents of Tan Tien 2 village hope that the irrigation management unit will soon find a definitive solution to the problem of water from the Ngan Truoi canal overflowing into the residential area. Timely handling will not only contribute to stabilizing people's lives but also ensure the irrigation system operates effectively, harmonizing the goals of serving production with the safety of the residential area.
