Learning has changed.

Therefore, while a few years ago the question of whether or not to assign homework during the Lunar New Year holiday sparked much debate, now school leaders have proactively and decisively said "no" to holiday homework.

This year, the principals of high schools who requested that teachers not assign homework during the Lunar New Year holiday all share the view that the holiday is a time for students to rest after a stressful period of studying; a time for fun and relaxation with their families. Experience from previous years shows that assigning homework during the holiday is ineffective. Ultimately, both teachers and students feel pressured and stressed during days that should be the most relaxing after a busy year.

Even for graduating students facing exams or university entrance exams, this period doesn't necessarily require cramming knowledge day and night. Preparing for important exams is a long-term process that requires careful planning and organization , and cannot be achieved in just a few days during Tet (Lunar New Year). Therefore, the school also requests parents' cooperation in not asking teachers to assign Tet homework for students, fearing that their children will forget what they've learned during the long holiday.

Furthermore, learning is not just about the knowledge imparted by teachers in the classroom.

The Lunar New Year holiday is a precious time for students to learn something different from their daily lives, helping them to improve themselves. Simply put, observing traditional activities during the Lunar New Year helps them understand more about the people around them, and more broadly, their village, hometown, and country. The holiday is a rare time for families to reunite, sharing the joy of togetherness, which also helps them better understand the sacred value of family and lineage; and get to know members they may never have met before.

Tet (Lunar New Year) also provides a time for leisurely reading more books and articles, watching favorite movies, composing music, writing poems, and planning projects… These are all things that students need to learn but find difficult to do in a relaxed state of mind due to their busy school and extra classes.

For students with international goals, they can take advantage of this time off in Vietnam while other countries continue working to focus on their plans. Even if a student enjoys tackling challenging math problems, that's fine as long as they feel interested and find joy in their learning. At that point, learning becomes a self-driven need, not a command from others.

And who knows, perhaps during these days off, many students will reap rewards by having time to do the things they love.

We live in an open world , an era of rapidly developing and changing technology, so learning and acquiring knowledge also needs a new approach, not just from textbooks. With that in mind, homework during the Lunar New Year holiday is no longer really necessary for students, as technology is present in almost every aspect of daily life and information is easily accessible anywhere.
