“Unity is our invincible strength. The Front’s Political Platform is the banner of great unity of all the people of South Vietnam to fight against the US and save the country until final victory. Our people have united, and will unite even more broadly and closely!” These are the words of President Ho Chi Minh, quoted from a letter to Comrade Nguyen Huu Tho – Chairman of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam – and to the people, soldiers, and cadres of South Vietnam on September 6, 1967, on the occasion of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam announcing its Political Platform. The letter was published in the Nhan Dan newspaper, issue 4903, dated September 13, 1967.
Throughout his revolutionary life, President Ho Chi Minh consistently upheld the ideology that "the people are the foundation," emphasizing national unity. He also affirmed: Unity, great unity, success, great success. Following his teachings, the Communist Party of Vietnam has gathered, united, and harnessed the immense strength of the entire nation, achieving great victories in the struggle for national liberation, successfully carrying out the two wars of resistance against France and the United States, completely liberating the South, and unifying the country; as well as carrying out the national renewal process, implementing deep international integration, and developing Vietnam into a prosperous and strong nation capable of "standing shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the world."
President Ho Chi Minh 's ideology is distilled from millennia, originating from the nation's traditions. General Tran Hung Dao, who defeated the Mongol army three times, always considered "the people as the foundation." He is famous for his philosophy of "easing the burden on the people." While on his deathbed, he advised King Tran Anh Tong that, in the strategy of defending the country, one must "ease the burden on the people to create a deep and lasting foundation," viewing the people as the enduring root of the dynasty. With the ideology of "the people as the foundation , " he fought not only with the army but also with the people's hearts. This ideology emphasized nurturing, reducing taxes, and caring for the people's lives, thereby creating national unity to safeguard the country. also He affirmed: "To ease the burden on the people and lay deep roots for lasting stability is the best strategy for preserving the nation."
National unity is a precious tradition of our nation, a strategic guideline, and the "red thread" running throughout the revolutionary leadership of our Party; it is the decisive factor in all victories in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Imbued with the Marxist-Leninist theory on the role of the masses as creators of history and President Ho Chi Minh's thought that "the people are the foundation," our Party has creatively applied these principles to revolutionary practice, leading our nation and country to achieve great victories, from the August Revolution of 1945 to the Dien Bien Phu Victory of 1954, from the great Spring Victory of 1975 to the national renewal process. Each historical turning point bears the indelible mark of the collective effort and solidarity of the entire nation under the leadership of the Party.
Throughout various Party congresses, especially during the 40 years of reform, the Party's viewpoint on harnessing the strength of the people and promoting national unity has been expressed increasingly profoundly and comprehensively. Imbued with the ideology of the nation and the great President Ho Chi Minh, over 96 years, the Party has consistently affirmed: Resources originate from thinking, motivation from innovation, and strength from the people. This has been evident in numerous meetings with the Central Committee. The Vietnam Fatherland Front, Professor, General, and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, emphasized: The Front is the people. The Front is the broadest gathering place of the masses – workers, farmers, women, the elderly, youth, teenagers, children, veterans; people of all ethnic groups and religions; intellectuals, businesspeople, artists; and Vietnamese people abroad. The strength of the Front is the strength of the people's will. The tradition of the Front is unity.
In particular, at the National Conference on Studying, Understanding, and Implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Party, General Secretary To Lam clearly stated: The Vietnam Fatherland Front and political and social organizations have the responsibility to promote the role of social supervision and criticism, and to mobilize "people and businesses to participate in implementing the resolution and supervising from the grassroots to the central level" through technological platforms. Supervision and criticism must be substantive, focusing on issues of direct concern to the people, bottlenecks in policy implementation, and specific social impacts of the resolution. It is crucial to promptly and truthfully reflect the opinions, aspirations, and legitimate recommendations of the people so that the Party and State can adjust policies to suit the reality.
Along with that, it is necessary to strongly innovate the methods of mobilizing and gathering the masses in a way that is close to the people, based on data, dialogue, and two-way interaction, avoiding the bureaucratization and formalization of the activities of the Fatherland Front and political-social organizations. Each organization must truly become a reliable bridge between the Party, the State, and the people, contributing to strengthening social trust and creating high consensus in the process of implementing major policies. "When the people understand correctly, trust, and directly participate in implementing and supervising resolutions, the strength of the great national unity will be fully unleashed and transformed into a great and sustainable driving force for the country's development in the new period," General Secretary To Lam stated.
The 14th National Congress continued to consistently affirm the principle of putting the people first. The people are the center, the subject, and the goal of development. All policies and guidelines must stem from the lives and legitimate aspirations of the people and aim to improve their living standards. When the people's right to self-governance is promoted, and when the great national unity is strengthened, the combined strength of the country will be multiplied, becoming the decisive resource for successfully achieving development goals in the new period.
The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam marks a new era for the Vietnamese nation after 96 years under the Party's leadership, 80 years of independence, and 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi (Renovation) policy. Following the era of independence, freedom, socialist construction, and the Doi Moi era, the country is entering an era of prosperous, civilized, and happy development, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading nations.
In an interview with the Dai Doan Ket newspaper, Politburo member, Central Committee Secretary, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Central Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Bui Thi Minh Hoai, also emphasized: "We are facing new opportunities and new prospects. I hope that every family and every individual, both at home and abroad, will continue to promote the spirit of self-reliance and self-strength, transforming the faith and aspirations of the new Congress term into creative motivation in labor and study. Great national unity is not something distant, but is present in the sharing between neighbors, in the consensus on major national policies, and in the desire to build a prosperous and beautiful homeland. This great national unity is nurtured every day by faith, civic responsibility, the spirit of mutual support and compassion, and the awareness of working together for the benefit of the community and the future of the country."
The 14th National Congress of the Party, based on a profound assessment of the country's achievements over 40 years of reform, especially the achievements of the 13th Party Congress, reaffirmed the role and strength of the people, the strength of national unity, asserting that the strength of national unity is the strength of the nation, and set forth policies, viewpoints, and tasks to further unleash the strength of the people and the strength of national unity in achieving the goal of development and building a prosperous, civilized, and happy country.
The political report presented to the 14th National Congress of the Party drew five valuable lessons learned after 40 years of reform, among which the lesson on harnessing the strength of the people and promoting national unity was clearly stated in the third lesson: “Deeply understand and thoroughly practice the viewpoint that ‘the people are the foundation.’ Promote the role and central position of the people. Strengthen and effectively promote the strength of the people and the great national unity. All policies and guidelines must truly stem from the legitimate aspirations, rights, interests, and happiness of the people; truly trust, respect, and promote the people's right to self-governance; persistently implement the motto 'the people know, the people discuss, the people do, the people inspect, the people supervise, and the people benefit'; tighten the close relationship between the Party and the people, relying on the people to build the Party and the political system. Take the satisfaction and trust of the people and businesses, and the effectiveness of work as criteria.” "Evaluating cadres." Based on the above lessons learned, our Party continues to affirm the great role of the people in the cause of renovation, national construction, and defense.
With the perspective that "the people are the foundation," the people are the subject, the center, the goal, and the driving force of development. All policies and guidelines of the Party and State must truly stem from the needs, aspirations, legitimate rights, and interests of the people; they must aim to improve the material and spiritual lives of the people; and respect for, guarantee, and protection of human rights, civil rights, happiness, and satisfaction of the people must be the measure and goal to strive for.
Embracing that spirit, journalist Truong Thanh Trung – Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Editor-in-Chief of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper – affirmed that: In the new organizational structure of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Dai Doan Ket Newspaper is clearly aware that the journey ahead has no end. Innovation is a constant requirement, but the overarching goal remains unchanged: serving the people, fostering national unity, and accompanying the country on the path of sustainable development.
National unity is not only a call to arms for the entire nation, but also an affirmation that strength originates from the people!
