Born and raised in the highlands of Xin Man, Ha Giang , Sung Minh Thanh is deeply connected to the familiar, melodious sounds of the Hmong flute. He possesses a burning love for his ethnic cultural roots. Recognizing the importance of preserving, conserving, and promoting the unique value of the Hmong flute in the context of cultural exchange and integration, Sung Minh Thanh has undertaken meaningful endeavors with the desire to spread the familiar, intimate, and distinctive sounds of the flute far and wide.

Xin Man is a border district located in the western part of Ha Giang province, home to 16 ethnic groups, including the Nung, Mong, Tay, La Chi, and Dao. The Mong ethnic group accounts for 24.73% of the district's population. The traditional cultural identity of the ethnic groups here is incredibly diverse and rich, especially in traditional folk art forms, including the khene (a type of bamboo flute) which is closely associated with the cultural and spiritual life of the Mong people.

Born and raised in the mountains of Xin Man, Sung Minh Thanh developed a special love for the Hmong flute from a young age. Guided by his relatives and possessing a naturally inquisitive nature, Thanh proactively sought to understand the unique characteristics of the flute, constantly honing his skills. Driven by his passion for the flute, Sung Minh Thanh diligently practiced, learned from his elders, and inspired younger generations to preserve, promote, and spread the beautiful cultural identity of his people.

In 2021, the People's Committee of Xin Man District issued a decision to establish the Xin Man District Mong Ethnic Cultural Musical Instrument Lovers Club, with Sung Minh Thanh entrusted as its Chairman. Initially, the club had 55 members, and now it has grown to over 100. The club members all share a burning passion for ethnic culture and a desire to promote and spread the traditional cultural values ​​of their people through dance and the sound of the Hmong flute. Sung Minh Thanh and the club members actively organize many meaningful activities such as Hmong flute dance exchanges and classes teaching Hmong dance and flute playing. To date, hundreds of students have successfully practiced Hmong dance and flute playing skills. In addition, the club also focuses on preserving and teaching other folk art forms such as coin stick dance, traditional folk singing, and the practice of Hmong rituals, customs, and traditions.

Thanks to his own efforts and the unity and active participation of the club members, over the years, Sung Minh Thanh and the club members have participated in many art performances at cultural and political events in Ha Giang province and exchanged ideas with other provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, and Yunnan province (China)... With the passion of youth and responsibility towards the traditional culture of the ethnic group, the Mong ethnic musical instrument enthusiasts' club in Xin Man district has achieved many high accomplishments and has been recognized by the local government and the public.

Not only has Sung Minh Thanh focused on spreading the positive values ​​of the Hmong flute within the community, but he has also quickly adopted new, scientific , and trendy approaches to promote and introduce the value of the traditional Hmong cultural identity through social media platforms. The club's leader has created a dedicated Facebook page called "Hmong Traditional Musical Instrument Lovers Club of Xin Man District," attracting thousands of followers and receiving much positive interaction.

In addition, the club's activities have been featured and broadcast by reputable media channels such as VTV1, VTV3, VTV5 - Vietnam Television and Ha Giang Television, including documentaries such as "Stories about artisans who tirelessly preserve the Hmong flute dance"; "The keeper of the Hmong flute's sound that resonates through the mountains and forests"; "The sound of the roots"; "The source of folk culture - the sound of unity"; "Vietnam's diversity", "Preserving the cultural musical instruments of the Hmong ethnic group"...

The club and its leader, Sung Minh Thanh, have received numerous certificates of merit and commendations from the People's Committee of Xin Man District for their achievements in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, as well as for their outstanding performance in various festivals and competitions organized by the province and other provinces in the region. Sung Minh Thanh himself was awarded a Certificate of Merit and honored as an outstanding youth in youth union work and youth movements during the 2023-2024 period by the Xin Man District Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Union Committee of Ha Giang Province.
