On January 18th, T1 defeated DRX 2-1 in a group stage match of the LCK Cup 2026, held at the LCK Arena in Jongno-gu, Seoul. "We won after a tense match. This is a series from which we have learned a lot," Coach Kkoma said in the press conference.
He also argued that the tournament was unpredictable because all the teams were capable of competing. Therefore, T1 benefited from accumulating more data during the extended match.
Regarding the loss in the second game, he expressed regret that the team couldn't consolidate their lead. However, the coach still sided with the players, believing that the team members could still bounce back and win the game overall.
"This is only the second match. I hope the players will continue to experiment with different things like they did today and accumulate data," he said.
Coach Kkoma's use of "data collection" reminded T1 fans of the early stages of last season. The team benched their ADC, Gumayusi, the reigning world champion, and fielded rookie Smash in the starting lineup for the LCK Cup 2025. After a series of unfavorable results, T1's management explained this was done to "collect data," as the tournament was short and had little impact on the overall year.
Currently, both Gumayusi and Smash have left. The 2025 World Championship MVP is now playing for HLE, while the young marksman from T1's academy has joined Dplus KIA.
Jungler Oner (Moon Hyeon-jun) also participated in the post-match interview. "It was a back-and-forth game. It was interesting because there were many skirmishes as the kill count increased. Even though Atakhan is gone, this is still a meta with a lot of clashes. There were constant 2v2 and 3v3 situations, and the team that fought better would win," Oner commented.
