Ta Phin actively eliminates outdated customs.

Besides the pristine and majestic beauty of its mountains and rustic villages, Ta Phin commune still faces difficulties and challenges from outdated customs. However, in recent years, with the decisive involvement of the local government and the unity of the people, Ta Phin is gradually transforming into a more civilized and progressive place.

The statistics speak for themselves, demonstrating the significant progress made in eradicating outdated customs among the ethnic minority communities in Ta Phin commune. Since the beginning of the year, no cases of child marriage or consanguineous marriage have been recorded in the area. This is a major success, as previously, these practices were quite common, causing numerous negative consequences for the health, economy , and future of the younger generation.

To achieve these encouraging results, credit must be given to the efforts and determination of the local government and organizations. The "battle" against child marriage, consanguineous marriage in particular, and harmful customs in general, is not easy; it requires perseverance, understanding, and an appropriate approach.

One of the most typical cases is that of Mr. Giàng A P.'s family in Lủ Khấu village. Mr. P. has a daughter in 9th grade who is not yet of marriageable age but intends to live with a married man in Ngũ Chỉ Sơn commune. Upon receiving this information, Ms. Giàng Thị Rể, from the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Tả Phìn commune, along with local security forces and the village head, immediately intervened.

Following the principle of "slow and steady wins the race," the sister-in-law and her team of officials did not rush to impose their will, but instead approached the families, engaged in sincere and open conversations, thoroughly analyzed the consequences of child marriage, and shared real-life stories and specific cases that had occurred in the area.

Mr. Giàng A P. said: "I was informed by officials that if my daughter becomes a mother too young, she is at risk of obstetric complications, anemia, and exhaustion; her child will often be malnourished, stunted, or even have congenital defects. Furthermore, she is not old enough to work, does not have a stable job, and her married life will be very difficult, easily leading to perpetual poverty and a bleak future. Moreover, if we intentionally allow our daughter to live with her boyfriend as husband and wife, my family could face administrative penalties or even criminal prosecution."

The people of Ta Phin commune actively preserve and promote traditional cultural values.

The persistence, dedication, and persuasive arguments touched the hearts of Mr. Giàng A P. and his family. After being informed, Mr. P. and his wife realized the mistakes in their thinking and that of their daughter. They did not allow their daughter to marry at a young age, nor did they let her live with her boyfriend before reaching the legal age for marriage registration. This is not only a success for the team of officials, but also a testament to the positive change in the awareness of the people of Tả Phìn commune, especially among ethnic minorities.

Nowadays, weddings and funerals in Ta Phin are organized in a civilized, dignified, and concise manner, in accordance with the law.

For the past three years or so, weddings have no longer been lengthy celebrations with expensive parties; instead, they have been warm and meaningful ceremonies. Funerals are organized in a simple manner, showing respect for the deceased and reducing the burden on the family.

These changes have brought immense value, not only helping people save costs and reduce economic burdens, but also contributing to building a cultured and civilized way of life, in line with the development of modern society.

To achieve these results, the officials of Ta Phin commune faced numerous difficulties, such as the limited awareness of some residents, especially ethnic minorities; outdated beliefs and customs that have existed for hundreds of years and cannot be eradicated overnight; the rugged terrain of the villages and hamlets, and difficult transportation, which created many obstacles for propaganda and mobilization efforts; in some cases, officials were even prevented from accessing the area to disseminate information...

However, overcoming all those difficulties, Ta Phin commune identified this as one of its top priorities. The commune leaders directed the responsible officials, village heads, and mass organizations to actively and proactively propagate and mobilize people to eliminate outdated customs.

According to Ms. Giang Thi Re, from the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Ta Phin commune, researching and applying various forms of propaganda involves not only village meetings and concentrated propaganda, but also private conversations and meetings at families' homes. This requires those involved in propaganda and mobilization to have certain skills, understand customs and traditions in order to be closer to and more easily persuade the people.

The transformation of the locality has shown that outdated customs are not inherent traits, but rather practices that can be changed through effort, perseverance, and the right approach. Ta Phin commune is on the path to development, not only economically but also in building a civilized and progressive way of life.
