Cynodon dactylon is a plant that prefers sunlight and moisture, but can tolerate shade. In Vietnam, it grows everywhere, often in clumps in plains, midlands, and high mountainous areas.

Cynodon dactylon grass can be harvested year-round, washed clean, and used fresh or dried.
According to traditional medicine and research documents, the herb known as "dã kê thảo" in medicinal books has a sweet, slightly bitter taste and a cooling nature.
Effects: Nourishes blood, promotes blood circulation, acts as a diuretic, detoxifies, and cools the liver. Used in cases of weakness, abdominal distension, urinary retention, rheumatism, malaria, fever, liver heat, high blood pressure, encephalitis, meningitis, urinary tract infections, boils, etc.
Some valuable medicinal remedies from Centella asiatica
Cynodon dactylon not only has the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying, cooling the body, cooling the liver, and stabilizing blood pressure, but also has many other uses such as:
- Treating high fever: Use fresh or dried Centella asiatica (the whole plant, excluding the flowers), possibly combined with Centella asiatica, Houttuynia cordata, Plantago major, and Imperata cylindrica roots (for even better results). Boil and drink instead of water to help lower fever, reduce headaches, and improve sleep…
- Treating mouth ulcers, oral sores, and thrush: This condition is common in both children and adults. It is caused by excessive heat. Use Centella asiatica alone or in combination with Portulaca oleracea, Plantago major, Polygonum multiflorum, and Houttuynia cordata (even more effective). Take a handful of each fresh herb, boil it to make a concentrated decoction, and drink it throughout the day for several days until cured. The symptoms will gradually lessen and disappear after starting treatment.
- Treating gray hair, dry, brittle, and falling hair: This effect is little known. The method is as follows: Wash the entire plant of Cynodon dactylon (excluding the flowers), chop it finely, dry it in the sun, roast it until golden brown, and then bury it in the ground. Consume about 30-40g daily, combined with 20g of Eucommia ulmoides and 20g of Rehmannia glutinosa. Boil these three ingredients thoroughly and drink the resulting liquid throughout the day. Continue this treatment for a period of time. For women, adding dried ripe mulberries to the decoction will enhance its effectiveness as it nourishes the blood.
Additionally, combining the use of Centella asiatica and grapefruit peel to boil water for washing hair can further enhance its effectiveness.
- Cools the liver, reduces inflammation, clears heat, treats acne: Many people have liver heat, acne, and sweat little; they can boil Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola) to make a drink (like tea). If liver function is poor, it can be combined with dandelion and artichoke to increase effectiveness.
Effect: It makes the body sweat, releasing toxins through the pores, making the body healthier and clearing up acne.
