Opportunities to stimulate tourism
- As scheduled, the Tam Ky Sea Festival 2024 is about to take place. Could you tell us about the highlights and activities of this year's festival?
- Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam : Developing tourism in Tam Ky is part of the city's strategy, with Tam Thanh as the focal point; besides that, there are also Bai Say Dam River, Ky Anh tunnels, Huong Tra village, Ca Ban village…
The Tam Ky Sea Festival, held annually for many years, aims to create a new momentum this year, contributing to the development of tourism and providing livelihoods for the people of Tam Thanh. Through this, it will further spread the image of Tam Ky and Tam Thanh throughout the province, the country, and internationally; contributing to building a green, cultural, historical, and smart Tam Ky city.
With that in mind, this year will feature several new activities such as a beer festival organized by Heineken Vietnam Brewery; a marathon for public health organized in collaboration with AIA Insurance; and traditional art programs.
In particular, the art program with the theme "Tam Thanh - Clear Blue Sea - Cool River" promotes the tourism image of Quang Nam and Tam Ky, telling the story of the land, the sea, the villages, and the Truong Giang River.
In addition, there are traditional folk activities organized by Tam Thanh commune. Given limited resources and the policy of promoting social participation, Heineken Vietnam Brewery with its Larue beer brand is the main sponsor of the festival. Several other businesses are also participating.
- Tam Ky has organized the Sea Festival for many years. How do you assess the effectiveness of previous editions, and with the new features of this year's festival, what are the city's expectations?
- Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam : Besides the main festival activities in the Tam Thanh and Ha Thanh beach areas, the city is also investing in a program to develop community art villages, adding paintings and sculptures, renewing old sculptures, and continuing to organize a sketching program connecting artists in Hanoi on June 15th. This is an important program, well-organized, contributing to tourism development.
Thus, it can be said that in addition to strategic projects to attract tourists to Tam Ky, focusing on the coastal area, the Song Dam lake area, the Ky Anh tunnels, and the Tam Thanh sea festival this summer, a number of new activities and events will leave a lasting impression on locals and tourists, contributing to the promotion of tourism.
Evaluating the effectiveness of the festival's organization in the past, besides creating a new dynamism for tourism in Tam Ky, it has also brought income and created livelihoods for the people, gradually forming the image of Tam Thanh as a peaceful and hospitable destination.
Tam Thanh now boasts a range of services including restaurants, cafes, and experiential activities such as river boat tours and homestays, demonstrating promising development in tourism. The city will continue to evaluate and strategically orient its development in the future; for example, organizing recreational activities, international kite-flying competitions, and national and international beach volleyball tournaments to create unique attractions.
Investing in depth
- In the past, the city organized many activities, contributing to spreading the values of Tam Ky's land and people. How will investment and connection of tourist destinations in the area be implemented in the future?
- Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam : During this sea festival, the city is directing tourist destinations in the area to clean up the environment, prepare to welcome visitors, connect with travel agencies, and create a city-wide integrated tourism chain.
In the long term, Tam Ky has identified key priorities: attracting large-scale projects; developing Ha Thanh beach with regularly maintained cultural, artistic, and sports activities; investing in projects built upon the foundation of the Tam Thanh mural village to develop experiential tourism; and further investing in infrastructure for Ha Thanh and Tinh Thuy beaches.
Furthermore, emphasis should be placed on civilized tourism, including issues related to business organization and arrangement, conduct, and tourism management skills training. Alongside this, the environmental sanitation movement, starting from the Tam Thanh mural village, should continue to spread, focusing on the treatment of organic waste and the avoidance of plastic bags.
Another area of focus for the city is developing community capacity in tourism, including creating local products to support tourism.
Every year, Tam Ky city organizes a comprehensive program of tourism activities and festivals; notably, the Huong Tra village's Sưa flower festival, the Song Dam experience, and the sea festival. The city continues to invest and is currently developing tourism plans for Huong Tra and Ca Ban villages.
Regarding the Ky Anh tunnels, the city has also agreed on a plan to build a major project, with an investment of 15 billion VND in 2024 alone to restore the tunnels and some other facilities.
For Song Dam, this year the project aims to create a recreational space, a scenic spot, and an experiential area with a budget of 15 billion VND, striving to have tourism products ready by March 24, 2025. Simultaneously, a national-level workshop on Song Dam biodiversity will be held in July.
The Huong Tra Village Festival, with its highlight being the "Heritage Tree," holds great significance, opening up a cultural story of Tam Ky, a unique tourism product, and creating a need to preserve, conserve, and develop Huong Tra village, and to promote the cultivation of Dalbergia tonkinensis in conjunction with native trees.
In addition, Tam Ky is coordinating with scientists from the Vietnam Natural History Museum to continue submitting heritage tree dossiers for the system of Rhizophora trees in the Ky Anh tunnel and An Ha hill in the near future.
The Tam Ky Sea Festival 2024 will take place from June 14th to 30th. The opening ceremony will be held on the evening of June 14th at Tam Thanh Beach Square.
This year's festival includes a series of activities such as the Carnival and the "Larue Beer Grand Music Festival"; the "Youth Gala"; the traditional folk singing and acting festival; kite flying performances; the Tam Ky fish sauce and food festival; exhibitions of OCOP products and startup products; the traditional Quang Nam table tennis tournament; the expanded martial arts arena for traditional martial arts clubs in Quang Nam province; the Olympic Run...
In addition, there were several activities organized by Tam Thanh commune, such as a swimming competition, a round basket boat race on the open sea; and the Olympic Run for Community Health "Tam Thanh with AIA - Welcome to a New Day".
