Traditional Thai ethnic costumes are worn by women in Tam Thanh commune when participating in local cultural and artistic activities.
Ngam village has 139 households with over 670 inhabitants, with the Thai ethnic group accounting for 96% of the village's population. Recognizing the importance of traditional culture, the village has actively promoted the preservation and development of Thai ethnic values. Those knowledgeable about cultural identity are encouraged to act as a bridge, directly teaching and preserving traditional values for the younger generation. As a result, the traditional cultural values of the Thai ethnic group in Tam Thanh are preserved and promoted.
Ms. Luong Thi Giang, one of the dedicated individuals preserving the Thai cultural identity in Ngam village, said: "Aware of my responsibility in preserving ethnic identity, I have joined other women in the locality to restore and develop the brocade weaving craft. Maintaining the brocade weaving craft has initially brought income to many households, contributing to the preservation of ethnic identity."
Recognizing the preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural values of the Thai ethnic group as a central task, Tam Thanh commune has proactively implemented a plan to preserve ethnic identity by encouraging artisans to teach folk songs and dances to the younger generation. It has directed villages to establish traditional arts clubs, providing financial support for purchasing costumes and props for the arts groups to practice and perform. In 2025, as part of the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030, the commune provided financial support to four villages: Cha Lung, Ngam, Bon, and Mo, to purchase costumes, gongs, and loudspeakers for arts practice.
Preserving and promoting the traditional values of the Thai ethnic group has become a driving force behind the socio-economic development of Tam Thanh. Material and spiritual life has gradually improved, with nearly 75% of families achieving the "Culturally Advanced Family" title, average per capita income reaching 32.6 million VND/person/year; and the poverty rate decreasing to 5.43%...
According to Ha Van Thay, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Tam Thanh commune: “To preserve and promote traditional cultural values, Tam Thanh commune continues to strengthen propaganda work and raise awareness among the younger generation about the value of our roots. We regularly organize competitions and art performances, showcasing the dances and folk songs of the Thai ethnic group on stage. This is not only an opportunity to honor ethnic identity, but also a bridge to spread and preserve traditional cultural values for generations to come.”
