According to sources in Russian media, the terrorist attack occurred before a concert evening held at the Crocus concert hall. A group of armed men opened fire in the main hall, then fires broke out on the upper floors of the building.
Immediately after the tragedy, the Russian Foreign Ministry called this a bloody terrorist attack. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case for investigation.
