Convenient transportation

Can Tho City, the center of the Mekong Delta region, enjoys a convenient location connecting it with neighboring provinces such as Vinh Long, Dong Thap, and An Giang. The city has a high concentration of schools, hospitals, and industrial zones, resulting in a significant number of people coming to Can Tho for education, medical care, and work. In the context of increasing travel, trade, and tourism demand, inter-provincial bus routes provide passengers from Can Tho and surrounding provinces with a safe and cost-effective transportation option.

Intercity bus services operate within Can Tho City.

Within the city, there are also interprovincial bus routes that enhance connectivity between neighboring localities. For example, the Can Tho - Vinh Long route, with a distance of 47km; the journey runs from Vinh Long bus station, Vinh Long province to the public parking lot and bus terminal at 36 Nguyen Van Linh Street, Can Tho City, and vice versa. The Can Tho - Vung Liem (old) route, with a distance of 76km; the journey runs from Vung Liem bus station, Vinh Long province to the public parking lot and bus terminal at 36 Nguyen Van Linh Street, Can Tho City, and vice versa. The Can Tho - Sa Dec (old) route, with a distance of 54km; the journey runs from Sa Dec bus station, Dong Thap province to the public parking lot and bus terminal at 36 Nguyen Van Linh Street, Can Tho City, and vice versa. The Nga Ba Lo Te - Sa Dec (old) route, with a distance of 47km. The Lo Te Junction - Chau Doc route is 64km long; the journey runs from Lo Te Junction, Thot Not Ward to Chau Doc bus station, An Giang province and vice versa…

Most intercity bus routes are designed to connect with points such as hospitals, bus stations, supermarkets, and tourist attractions, making it convenient and attractive for people to use buses. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang from Trung Thanh commune, Vinh Long province, said: “Having intercity bus routes helps me save a significant amount of money whenever I have to go to Can Tho. The cost of taking the bus is much cheaper than using other transportation services. The buses are clean and cool, and even sitting on them for a long time feels comfortable. Moreover, it gives me more peace of mind when traveling with the elderly or young children, especially on hot days or during heavy rain.”

Ms. Ngo Thi Lieu, residing in Sa Dec ward, Dong Thap province, shared: “Thanks to the bus route through Can Tho city, I can travel and get medical check-ups much more easily. Previously, when I needed a check-up, I had to wait for my children to arrange their schedules to take me, sometimes resulting in missed appointments, or taking a taxi was quite expensive. The buses run smoothly, have air conditioning, and the staff are friendly and enthusiastic in assisting with boarding and alighting. Elderly people get discounted fares, saving money. Now, every time I have a follow-up appointment or need a medical check-up, I always choose the bus.”

Aiming for synchronized connectivity.

Besides serving the transportation needs of the people, intercity bus routes also contribute to attracting people to use public transport, reducing the use of private vehicles on intercity routes. This helps to reduce traffic accidents on national highways and urban areas, alleviate traffic congestion, and minimize environmental pollution, bringing a new, civilized look to transportation.

According to the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center - Department of Construction of Can Tho City, the center continues to research and advise the Department of Construction on completing the construction, adjustment, and publication of the list of intra-provincial and inter-provincial bus routes in Can Tho City to suit the actual situation in the new phase. They will also continue to promote widespread and continuous information dissemination through various forms to encourage people to use buses.

FUTA Bus Lines, a subsidiary of Phuong Trang Passenger Transport Joint Stock Company, operates 9 intra-provincial bus routes and several inter-provincial bus routes within Can Tho City. According to FUTA Bus Lines, based on Can Tho City's public transport development plan following the expansion of its administrative boundaries, the company has been developing a bus network plan tailored to the city's needs, aiming to better serve the travel demands of residents in Can Tho City and surrounding areas. Furthermore, they are researching the integration of data and bus operating systems between neighboring localities, moving towards the construction of a synchronized inter-regional public transport system to facilitate passenger travel.
