In the context of constantly updating knowledge, traditional teaching and learning methods that rely entirely on paper books are revealing many limitations. For fundamental reform, education must shift to a digital environment, where digital learning materials and big data play a central role.

Vietnam Education Publishing House and Viettel Enterprise Solutions Corporation exchanged a cooperation agreement between the two entities.

In Vietnam, this orientation has been concretized by Decision No. 131/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on the Digital Transformation Program for the Education Sector until 2025, with a vision to 2030. In the context of implementing Resolution 29-NQ/TW on fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training, the Ministry of Education and Training has continuously directed the development of digital learning materials to serve online and blended learning, while simultaneously reducing the workload for teachers and effectively supporting assessment and evaluation.

In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic clearly demonstrated that without digital learning materials, education would be disrupted. Conversely, where timely and authentic digital learning materials are available, teaching and learning activities can be maintained relatively stably.

Accelerate Big Data development.

As the leading textbook publisher in the country, Vietnam Education Publishing House ( NXBGDVN) is facing a significant challenge: How to transform its vast legacy of educational books, accumulated over decades, into a vibrant digital resource that can be exploited, shared, and used to serve society.

Digitizing books is not simply scanning paper into PDF files. It's a process of standardizing, restructuring, and connecting data, so that each book no longer exists in isolation but becomes part of a digital learning ecosystem.

Vietnam Education Publishing House is accelerating the development of a Big Data database for its system of textbooks, workbooks, and reference books.

In reality, tens of thousands of educational books from various periods exist scattered across different eras, lacking complete archives, and even more so lacking digital data. This not only makes management difficult but also leaves a vast body of knowledge virtually "dormant" in the face of the demands of digital education.

Recognizing this gap, Vietnam Education Publishing House has accelerated the development of Big Data for educational books, considering it the foundation for its long-term digital transformation strategy and the key to expanding its ability to serve the community.

During the implementation process, the Vietnam Education Publishing House collaborated with the National Library of Vietnam to collect a catalog of books deposited over various periods; organized a review and removed duplicates… thereby forming a catalog of 33,786 book titles with relatively complete basic data. Among these, textbooks, workbooks, teacher's books, and supplementary reading books predominate, with the remainder being other types of educational books.

Notably, all 1,132 textbooks, teacher's guides, and workbooks under the 2018 General Education Program have had their data standardized digitally from the draft stage. In addition, member units have submitted over 4,360 reference book files and nearly 200 multimedia digital learning materials. This is a crucial data source for forming a copyrighted digital learning resource library for long-term use.

These figures show that Big Data on educational books at Vietnam Education Publishing House is gradually being revealed.

Collaborative efforts to create a "core" for the digital education ecosystem.

Recognizing that no single institution can complete digital transformation on its own, Vietnam Education Publishing House has proactively entered into strategic partnerships with major technology companies to build a digital learning resource ecosystem based on Big Data.

Notably, the collaboration with Viettel Military Telecommunications Corporation involves digitizing textbooks using a four-tier model, developing AI-powered textbooks and an educational data platform as the "core," aiming to integrate AI into various subjects and form a shared AI education ecosystem starting from the 2026-2027 school year.

Simultaneously, the Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) collaborated with VTC to build the NXBGDVN Digital Learning Resources Platform, centrally managing official learning materials, learning data, and teaching and learning tools on a unified platform. The Learning Resources Platform not only "spreads" textbooks across the digital environment but also "delves deeper" into personalized learning, supporting teacher assessment, student active learning, and data-driven school management.

In addition, collaborations with Tri Thuc Moi, AI EDU, and Zodiac Clarity continue to expand the digital learning resource ecosystem, from e-textbooks, LMS, and AI Tutor to smart classrooms and K-12 learning resource repositories, gradually forming a synchronized, standardized, and copyrighted digital education environment.

It's not just about storing information, but also about utilizing it to serve society.

The key aspect of Vietnam Education Publishing House's approach is: Building Big Data is not about "storing it away," but about exploiting and disseminating knowledge to society. Since 2020, Vietnam Education Publishing House has put textbooks and electronic learning materials on website platforms to serve book introductions, teacher training, and support the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program. Thousands of online training sessions have been organized, yielding clear results, especially during the pandemic.

Simultaneously, member units are expanding their distribution channels on e-commerce platforms, gradually adapting to the changing habits of learners in accessing books in the digital age.

Currently, the Vietnam Education Publishing House is finalizing a project to digitize books from different periods, preparing to select a supplier, organize the digitization of book collections at the National Library, and develop digital library software to manage and utilize the data. Technological solutions ranging from open-source to commercial software are being considered to ensure sustainability, security, and scalability.

In particular, the cooperation strategy of Vietnam Education Publishing House is defined in a long-term, cumulative direction, with e-textbooks as the core foundation. The goal is not only to develop digital products, but also to build a digital learning resource ecosystem to serve the community, in which free e-textbooks from grade 1 to grade 12 are considered a breakthrough step, contributing to reducing the financial burden of education for millions of families and gradually realizing the government's policy of free textbooks.

With a student-centered development philosophy and systematic investment in content, technology, and data, Vietnam Education Publishing House's Big Data learning materials are expected to become an important digital knowledge platform, opening up a new approach for Vietnamese education in the era of digital transformation.
