Creating a

Vaccination is an effective measure, creating a "shield" to protect the community against infectious diseases.

With young children in the age group eligible for the expanded immunization program, Ms. Ha Thi Van from Hac Thanh ward always pays close attention to her children's regular vaccination schedule. Ms. Van shared: "Through mass media and each time I take my children to the health station for vaccinations, I've been informed about the importance of vaccination, so I've registered them for all the vaccines in the expanded immunization program according to the vaccination schedule. At times when there was a shortage of vaccines, I even chose private vaccination services to ensure my children received their vaccinations and to enhance their protection against diseases."

Since 1985, the Expanded Immunization Program has been widely implemented throughout the country, and many people have become fully aware of the importance and role of vaccines. Regularly, monthly vaccinations are administered to children according to the Expanded Immunization Program at health stations and medical centers. In addition to health stations and medical centers, many private vaccination units and centers have also been established. Along with the expansion of vaccination facilities, the range of vaccines available has also become more diverse, covering a wider variety of diseases. Currently, the vaccines used in the Expanded Immunization Program include vaccines against tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, Hib meningitis, polio, measles, and Japanese encephalitis.

In Thanh Hoa province , the expanded immunization program is maintained monthly at 585 vaccination points, including 547 points at commune and ward health stations; and 38 points at hospitals and public and private immunization centers. All units implement immunization according to the requirements and directives of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Center for Disease Control.

As of July 31, 2025, units in the province have safely and effectively implemented routine vaccination programs under the Expanded Immunization Program, with the following vaccination rates: Hepatitis B vaccination within the first 24 hours reaching 41.3%; BCG vaccination for children under 1 year old reaching 48.8%; first dose of Helicobacter pylori-Helicobacter pylori-BPH-Hib reaching 55.1%; second dose reaching 56.9%; third dose reaching 56.4%; Rotavirus vaccination reaching 45.4%; polio vaccination reaching 47.5%; measles vaccination for children aged 9-12 months reaching 54.6%; and complete immunization reaching 52.7%.

It's not just children who need vaccinations. Nowadays, with disease patterns constantly changing and infectious diseases appearing more frequently and not following the same patterns as before, many adults are proactively seeking vaccinations. Surveys at many vaccination centers show that more and more people are interested in getting vaccinated. Young people are interested in vaccinations against cervical cancer, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, etc.; older people are interested in vaccinations against influenza and pneumococcal disease.

In a conversation with Master's degree holder Le Thien Phu, Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Provincial Center for Disease Control, it was learned that: Vaccination is the most effective preventive measure to reduce the incidence and mortality rates of infectious diseases. Approximately 85-95% of vaccinated individuals will develop specific immunity protecting their bodies from contracting the disease. Thanks to vaccines, around 2.5 million children worldwide are saved from dying from infectious diseases every year. Vaccines and immunization play a crucial role in achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of reducing the mortality rate for children under 5 years old worldwide...

One of the most important effects of vaccines is preventing the spread of dangerous infectious diseases in the community. When a sufficient number of people in the community are vaccinated, infectious diseases have less chance of spreading because the majority of the population is protected. Herd immunity helps control disease outbreaks and reduces the risk of widespread transmission. This is a core element in public health strategy, contributing to ensuring the health and safety of the entire community.

To raise awareness of the importance of vaccination, the health sector and the Provincial Center for Disease Control have intensified propaganda to raise public awareness of the role of vaccines and the benefits of immunization. At the same time, they have strengthened the organization of training and technical guidance for health workers involved in vaccination, implemented the management of target groups on the national immunization information system in the province; and directed units and localities to strengthen inspection, supervision, and support for vaccination activities... Every citizen should equip themselves with a "shield" of proactive disease prevention through vaccination to protect their own health and that of their families from vaccine-preventable diseases.
