This year, Binh Duong ward, Dong Trieu city, has 480 hectares of spring rice, mainly late-spring varieties planted by farmers after harvesting their Atlantic potato crop. At this time, the rice is beginning to ripen. Farmers are mobilizing machinery and manpower to harvest the rice, taking advantage of the sunny weather to dry the grain immediately after harvesting. Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, from Binh Duong ward, happily shared: "Compared to previous years, this year's rice has fewer pests and diseases. Currently, my family has only harvested 30% of the area; the rest will be harvested by June 29th."
Compared to the same period in previous years, this year's spring crop faced unfavorable early-season weather due to prolonged cold spells, which slowed rice growth by 10-15 days. However, thanks to technical solutions implemented by farmers and relevant units, the spring rice crop throughout the province has basically achieved good results.
Mr. Vu Van Tam, General Director of Quang Ninh Seed Company, said: "The spring crop of 2025 had unfavorable weather conditions. The beginning of the year was cloudy and cold for an extended period, which slowed down the growth of the spring rice crop. However, the rice plants accumulated more energy. For our company, which mainly produces seeds, the yield is 7-10% higher compared to the same period last year."
This year, the entire province planted over 14,500 hectares of spring rice. To date, more than 10,150 hectares have been harvested, reaching 70% of the spring crop area. In particular, the rice fields in the western part of the province have yielded 7-10% higher productivity compared to the same period last year, estimated at over 60 quintals/hectare. In the eastern part of the province, farmers in Hai Ha, Dam Ha, Tien Yen, and Ba Che districts have begun harvesting some of the mid-spring rice crops. According to the assessment of the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, this year's spring crop is considered a success in terms of yield and production.
Mr. Pham Duy Duan, Head of the Technical Department of the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, said: This year, the average yield of spring rice throughout the province reached over 55 quintals/hectare. Currently, farmers in the province are harvesting and are expected to finish harvesting by early July.
Opposite to In some localities within the province, farmers have completed the rice seedling planting on approximately 100 hectares and are expected to transplant the late-season rice crop no later than July 20th.
This year, Quang Ninh's agriculture and environment sector aims for a total spring rice yield of approximately 80,400 tons. Along with focusing on urgently harvesting the spring crop, the sector also requires specialized agencies to promptly guide farmers in preparing seedlings for planting, ensuring that the total planted area in the province reaches over 21,700 hectares.
