In 2024, the UK recorded record-high music sales, thanks to massive streaming and vinyl purchases of hits by top artists, especially Taylor Swift.
According to the Digital Entertainment and Retail Association (ERA), revenue from streaming music services in the UK increased by almost 8%, to around £2 billion ($2.5 billion) last year. Vinyl album sales increased by 10.5%, to £196 million ($241.7 million).
ERA CEO Kim Bayley said 2024 was a very successful year for the music industry, thanks to the growth of streaming services and vinyl records, which helped the industry achieve all-time records in both value and volume.
She also said that the strong resurgence of music has helped sales double from their lowest point in 2013.

Despite this, many artists have expressed concerns about low royalties from streaming services, with leading music platform Spotify facing a lawsuit in the US last year.
