Ten Hag sets a record with Man Utd.

VnExpressVnExpress11/11/2023

Erik ten Hag is the first manager in Manchester United history to lead his team to 30 wins in his first 50 English league matches.

In his first 50 Premier League matches, the Dutch manager led Man Utd to 30 wins, six draws, and 14 losses. Across all competitions, Ten Hag also reached 50 wins with Man Utd after 80 games. His win rate is currently 62.5%, the highest ever at Man Utd, excluding interim managers.

The 53-year-old manager has helped Manchester United earn 96 points in their last 50 Premier League matches, accounting for 64% of the points total. His performance is better than Jurgen Klopp's early days at Liverpool, when the German coach earned 92 points, representing 61%. Even Mikel Arteta only managed 75 points in his first 50 matches with Arsenal, a 50% success rate.

Ten Hag had to rely on defender Victor Lindelof to reach these milestones, as he scored the only goal to help Man Utd beat newly promoted Luton Town. Centre-back Harry Maguire and goalkeeper Andre Onana also impressed by helping their teams keep clean sheets. Onana rose to third in the race for the Golden Glove this season, with four clean sheets, behind Sam Johnstone and Nick Pope (five).

The victory against Luton also helped Man Utd achieve the best form in the Premier League, considering their last five matches. They earned 12 points during this period, Newcastle earned 11 points, and the remaining teams earned 10 points or less.

Ten Hag will not be able to direct Manchester United from the touchline in their next match against Everton in two weeks. The former Ajax manager received a yellow card in the win against Luton for insulting the referee, his third warning this season. Therefore, Ten Hag cannot sit on the touchline, but he can still watch the game from the stands and direct remotely.
