RT quoted Denis Alipov as saying that the BrahMos is a prime example of bilateral defense cooperation between Russia and India, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the first BrahMos missile test launch.
Named after the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers, the BrahMos is one of the world's fastest supersonic cruise missiles.
"Currently, work is underway on developing smaller and hypersonic variants, which will further enhance the multi-field strike capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces," the Russian diplomat said on June 18.
BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile with a speed of up to Mach 3, which is three times the speed of sound. Currently, it has variants launched from land, sea, and air.
Mr. Alipov reiterated the use of this missile in Operation Sindoor, the brief military clash between India and Pakistan in 2025. Approximately 15-20 BrahMos missiles were fired by India during that clash, damaging several major Pakistani air bases.
According to Alipov, the BrahMos joint venture, established in 1995, has transformed the bilateral relationship from a "traditional trading framework" into one based on "technology sharing, joint development, and joint production."
The Russian diplomat added that, after a decade and a half, India has institutionalized this approach within the framework of its "Make in India" program.
Along with the BrahMos program, the joint development of a fifth-generation fighter jet based on Russia's Su-57 platform and the production of the S-400 air defense system will strengthen the direction of bilateral defense cooperation.
He emphasized: "This project also marks a turning point in our bilateral cooperation, paving the way for other important initiatives such as the licensing and localization of Su-30MKI fighter jets and T-90 main battle tanks in India."
Mr. Alipov also mentioned the AK-203 rifles recently produced by the Indo-Russia Rifles joint venture.
Last week, BrahMos Aerospace CEO Alexander Maksichev said the company was ready to supply missiles to the Russian Navy and Army.
Initially limited to a range of 290km, the weapon was later upgraded to have a longer range. The Philippines was the first foreign customer, signing a $375 million contract in 2022.
The first batch of BrahMos missiles was delivered to Manila in April 2024 and the second batch in April 2025.
BrahMos Aerospace reported record revenue growth of 48.6% for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
