Responsibility towards work
The Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 is fast approaching. Lieutenant Colonel Luu Van Khanh, Deputy Head of Firefighting and Rescue Team No. 8 (Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue Police Department - Hanoi City Police), said that to boost the morale of officers and soldiers while on duty, the unit's command organized the making of banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) before Tet.
This activity not only aims to care for the spiritual well-being of officers and soldiers but also contributes to building and spreading the image of a fire and rescue police officer who is courageous and responsible in their work, simple and approachable in everyday life, and dedicated to the peace and security of the people.
While wrapping banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) with his comrades, Corporal Nguyen Minh Quang (born in 2002), celebrating Tet away from home for the first time, shared: “Tet is a time for family reunion. In previous years, I was able to gather with my family, sit together wrapping banh chung, and wait for New Year's Eve.”

This year, although he has to be away from his family, according to Corporal Nguyen Minh Quang, the encouragement from his commanders and the close bond with his comrades have helped him overcome his homesickness. “My colleagues and I in the unit made banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) together and organized activities to celebrate Tet. Those images made me feel like I was reliving the atmosphere of my family,” he said.
On New Year's Eve, while many people were resting with their families, Quang and his teammates remained ready. "I am always ready to go anywhere, to do anything when the country and its people need me," he affirmed. Sending a message back home, Quang reassured his grandparents and parents that he lives in a united and loving environment, and wished his family good health and a happy new year.

Serving alongside the firefighters on duty during Tet at Fire and Rescue Team No. 8, Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Tan (born in 1994, from Lao Cai province) clearly understands the responsibility of a firefighter during the peak period of ensuring safety during Tet 2026. In the annual work program and personnel duty plan, he was assigned the task of being on constant readiness to handle fire and explosion incidents.
"Being assigned duties during the Tet holiday is both an honor and a responsibility. I will try my best to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, the State, and my superiors," Lieutenant Tan shared.

As a husband and son, Tan couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness thinking about his frail father and his wife, who was 27 weeks pregnant with their first child. Despite being away from home during this sensitive time, he said his family was always understanding and supportive. "My wife and parents are very understanding because of the nature of my work. I'm doing my duty while also regularly checking in and encouraging them so they can rest assured," he said.
Right up until the Lunar New Year, officers and soldiers of Firefighting and Rescue Team No. 8 intensified fire safety guidance at crowded areas within their jurisdiction. This helped minimize the risk of fires and also played a crucial role in maintaining security and order, allowing people to enjoy the holiday with peace of mind.

Close to the people, respect the people.
Early on the morning before Tet (Lunar New Year), Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan (65 years old, residing in residential area No. 58, Hai Ba Trung ward) and many other residents of residential area No. 58 gathered at the Fire and Rescue Team No. 9 – a "neighbor" of the residents of Luong Yen street – to help wrap banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) with the officers and soldiers. "Today, we came to support and share the joy with the officers and soldiers of Fire and Rescue Team No. 9," Mr. Tuan said.
Sitting together around banana leaves, sticky rice, and mung beans with officers and soldiers who were only the age of his children and grandchildren, Mr. Tuan kindly instructed them on how to fold each banana leaf to fit the cake mold, guided them on the ratio of rice and beans in the cake, and how to tie the strings...
"The military and the people have always been one, and the officers and soldiers of Firefighting and Rescue Team No. 9 consider each other as family. It's not just about making sticky rice cakes today; the people and the officers and soldiers here are all united in supporting each other, and it's very joyful," Mr. Tuan shared.

With dedicated guidance, hands accustomed to handling hoses and nozzles now skillfully wrap vibrant green sticky rice cakes. Private Ly Hai Long (21 years old), a soldier in Firefighting and Rescue Team No. 9, was very excited.

Private First Class Ly Hai Long said he was very happy to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) with his comrades. Long said that joining the Fire and Rescue Police force helped him mature. In addition to professional skills, he also honed life skills and soft skills through group activities with his teammates.
Major Tran Manh Thang, an officer of the Firefighting and Rescue Team No. 9, said that with the utmost discipline and the unique nature of firefighting work, the Lunar New Year always places a high level of vigilance against "the fire enemy." The unit's modern fire trucks are always thoroughly inspected down to the smallest detail, ensuring effective operation and readiness to depart immediately upon order.

“The unit is on 100% standby, 24/7 throughout the Lunar New Year holiday. Every officer and soldier is always in a state of ‘waiting for orders,’ ready to fight to protect the lives and property of the people,” said Major Tran Manh Thang.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Khac Tuan, Team Leader of Firefighting and Rescue Team No. 9, said that, in line with the motto "Enjoy the Spring Festival and Tet safely, economically, and maintain high combat readiness," the unit has organized many activities to help officers and soldiers fully experience the Tet atmosphere while on 24/7 duty, thereby fostering greater affection and attachment to the unit.
