The capital city of Bangkok (Thailand) has recorded 10 deaths, mostly victims of high-rise building collapses – caused by aftershocks from the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn directed that the public alert system via SMS be immediately improved and a mobile television system be developed within three months to ensure that information reaches the people in a timely manner.

At the same time, she requested the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to strengthen coordination to quickly update traffic conditions, road closures, and alternative routes after natural disasters.

To ensure the safety of Bangkok, the Thai government is urgently searching for missing persons, reviewing high-rise building permits, assessing safety standards, urban planning, and building codes.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn also called on the entire nation to work together to support home repairs, inspect infrastructure and hotels to ensure the safety of tourists.

The Thai royal family has announced the expansion of royal medical care services to all victims injured in the earthquake.

In Bangkok, fearing damage from the earthquake's tremors, hospitals urgently evacuated patients to safety.

At Rajavithi Hospital, doctors and nurses quickly evacuated patients from the building. On the morning of March 29, some patients were transferred back to the hospital. Meanwhile, the Airports of Thailand Corporation (AOT) said that operations at six airports, including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Chiang Rai, and Phuket, had returned to normal after the earthquake.

AOT confirmed that the buildings at these airports remain intact and the aviation infrastructure meets safety standards.

Many Bangkok residents are still in shock, fearing further aftershocks. Some have chosen to sleep outdoors, setting up tents in parks for the night.

The devastating earthquake in Myanmar triggered strong aftershocks in Bangkok, about 1,000km south of the epicenter, causing a 30-story building under construction to completely collapse.

According to the latest report from Thai authorities, Bangkok has recorded 10 fatalities, the majority of whom were victims of the high-rise building collapse. Rescue teams are still searching for more than 100 people who may be buried in the rubble.
