The deep bond of camaraderie in the aftermath of the flood.

Thanks to the timely care, encouragement, and support, both material and spiritual, from their superiors and comrades, many officers and soldiers who unfortunately lost loved ones or whose homes were damaged or flooded by the recent heavy rains in Central Vietnam have gradually overcome their losses and grief and stabilized their lives. The storms and floods will eventually pass, but the camaraderie and solidarity among comrades in times of hardship and danger will surely remain in the hearts of these soldiers.

In the small house of Corporal Le Hoai Nam's family (Security Team, K55 Technical Warehouse, Logistics-Technical Department of Military Region 5) in Vung Ro village (Hoa Xuan, Dak Lak ), the altar and portraits of Nam's two unfortunate younger sisters are placed right in the living room.

Amidst the swirling incense smoke, Le Hoai Nam shared: “My parents had four children, two daughters and two sons. I am the eldest son, enlisted in the army at the beginning of 2024, and work more than 100 kilometers away from home. My younger sister, Nhu, is working as a hairdresser in Ho Chi Minh City, while my two youngest siblings are in primary school in Vung Ro. Two weeks ago, my unit granted me leave, so Nhu also arranged her work to come home to visit the family so we could chat and catch up. Unexpectedly, in the early morning of November 20th, while the whole family was asleep, large rocks from the mountain suddenly rolled down, collapsing a corner of the house and killing Nhu and another of my younger siblings instantly.”

Soldiers of the 315th Division (Military Region 5) actively participated in the "Quang Trung Campaign," swiftly building and repairing houses for people in flood-affected areas.

Faced with the immense difficulties and losses suffered by the family of soldier Le Hoai Nam, immediately after receiving the news, the leaders and commanders of the K55 Technical Depot visited the family to offer condolences and encouragement, and together with the local Party committee and government, took care of the funeral arrangements for the deceased. With deep affection and solidarity, the officers and soldiers of the unit also contributed tens of millions of dong to support Nam's family. From November 20th to the present, many delegations from Military Region 5, the Political Department, the Logistics and Technical Department, the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command, and other agencies and units stationed in the area have also traveled long distances to Vung Ro to visit, encourage, and donate hundreds of millions of dong to help Nam's family gradually overcome the consequences of the natural disaster and floods. Touched by the love and support from his superiors and comrades, Corporal Le Hoai Nam said: "There were times when I thought I would collapse. But with the care, visits, and encouragement from my superiors and comrades, I gradually overcame the difficult period and became a source of moral support for my whole family."

In Dak Lak province, local authorities have been joining hands to help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters. In recent days, Sergeant Nguyen Thanh Phong, Squad Leader (Company 4, Battalion 1), Sergeant Nguyen Chi Hoai, Squad Leader (Company 2, Battalion 1), Corporal Pham Thanh Thien (Company 8, Battalion 2), and officers and soldiers of Regiment 143 (Division 315, Military Region 5) have been working late into the night and early in the morning, even during lunchtime, to speed up the work. After learning that 75 officers and soldiers in the unit have families and relatives living in Dak Lak whose homes were damaged or flooded by the heavy rains, Regiment 143 has been taking turns organizing visits home for these comrades since November 28th, in accordance with the policy of the Party Committee and the command of Division 315. In addition to gifts of cash, food, and supplies, soldiers whose homes were damaged, with roofs blown off or walls collapsed, received labor assistance from their units to help them gradually rebuild their lives.

Returning to his unit after a brief visit home to see his family, Sergeant Nguyen Chi Hoai said: “On the night of November 19th, my family's house and dozens of other households in Phu Huu village (Hoa Thinh, Dak Lak) were submerged by floodwaters. In that dangerous situation, luckily my parents and other villagers were discovered and evacuated in time by officers and soldiers of the Defense Command of Area 6 - Tuy Hoa (Dak Lak Provincial Military Command) and the Commune Military Command. Being able to visit home, see my parents still healthy, I feel very relieved. As long as we are alive, we can still have hope. With the love, sharing, and help of the community, especially the Party Committee, the unit commanders, and my comrades, my family and I will try our best to overcome this difficult period.”

On the morning of December 1st, agencies and units throughout Military Region 5 simultaneously launched the "Quang Trung Campaign," mobilizing all resources to rapidly build and repair houses for people, including relatives and families of active-duty soldiers, who are in difficult circumstances and have suffered heavy losses due to floods, so that they can celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026. In the "epicenter of the floods" in Central Vietnam, each house built and constructed by the soldiers is imbued with the deep and enduring bond of camaraderie between the military and the people.
