The journey took more than 120 officials from the Ho Chi Minh City Student Union to the home of People's Armed Forces Hero Tran Van On, now a shrine dedicated to this young hero, in Phuoc Thanh commune, Chau Thanh district ( Ben Tre province).

Also present on that trip was Mr. Hoang Don Nhat Tan, whom the young people affectionately called "Uncle Sau Trieu," the vice chairman of the City Youth Union's Traditional Club. He recounted that he joined the student and youth protest movement in Saigon - Cholon - Gia Dinh when he was only 15 years old.
"Back then, students transformed vocational training tools into weapons and turned schools into strongholds, determined to rise up and fight," Mr. Sau Trieu recounted.
This trip reminds today's generation of students of the bloody repression of January 9, 1950, which became the spark that ignited many student protest movements, joining the fighting spirit of the people at that time.
Many students during this period bravely fell in battle, including martyr Tran Van On. And January 9th has become the annual Traditional Day of Students and the Vietnam Student Association.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung (Head of the Inspection Committee of the Vietnam Student Association of Ho Chi Minh City) shared that the journey to the hometown of hero Tran Van On was not only a reminder of a historical event but also a hope that the staff of the Student Association of Ho Chi Minh City would understand and spread the proud traditional values.
Cao Tuan Kiet (President of the Vietnamese Student Association at the University of Finance - Marketing, Ho Chi Minh City) was impressed by the story of Uncle Six Trieu's revolutionary activities, which he considered a heroic part of the youth's memories during the resistance war.
For Hoang Khanh Bao Quyen (President of the Student Union of the University of Economics and Law, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), this journey was very meaningful because although she had been to Ben Tre many times, this was the first time she had learned about the house, which also serves as a shrine, of martyr Tran Van On.
From each meaningful story she learned during the trip, Bao Quyen said she would have to do her best in her role as a Youth Union officer to develop volunteer activities and inspire her friends around her.
This trip is one of the activities in a series of training programs for key officials of the Student Union at universities in Ho Chi Minh City.
It is hoped that the topics covered in skills, professional expertise, problem-solving in community activities, and the profile of student union officials, which were previously covered, will form a class of dynamic and creative student leaders, bringing new vitality to the student movement in Ho Chi Minh City.
During the trip, the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnamese Student Association donated 20 gifts and scholarships to support underprivileged but academically优秀 students in the hometown of the hero Tran Van On.
Upon receiving the gift, Dang Kieu Thy (7A class, Giao Long Secondary School) said she was happy and grateful for the valuable attention, which gave her more motivation to always strive and work harder in her studies.
