Ho Chi Minh City announces 17 National Treasures.

On June 29th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision recognizing national treasures and to inaugurate the thematic exhibition "National Treasures - Masterpieces of Heritage in Ho Chi Minh City".

Former Politburo member and former National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended the event.

This is the first time that 17 National Treasures from public museums and private collectors in Ho Chi Minh City have been exhibited together, creating a comprehensive picture of Vietnamese history and culture from prehistoric times to the modern era.

The National Treasures featured include:

- The ceramic pot (Dong Son culture) dates back approximately 2,500 - 2,000 years ago. This artifact belongs to the private collection of Pham Gia Chi Bao and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2024.

- The Dong Duong Buddha statue (Champa culture) dates back to the 8th-9th centuries. This artifact is housed at the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2012.

- The statue of the goddess Devi (Champa culture) dates back to the 10th century. This artifact is housed at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2012.

- The Avalokitesvara statue from Hoai Nhon (Champa culture) dates back to the 8th-9th centuries. This artifact is housed at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2013.

- The statue of the god Vishnu (Oc Eo culture) dates back to the 2nd-5th centuries. This artifact is housed in the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2012.

- The statue of the god Surya (Oc Eo culture) dates back to the 6th-7th centuries. This artifact is housed in the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2012.

- The statue of the goddess Durga (Oc Eo culture) dates back to the 7th-8th centuries. This artifact is housed in the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2013.

- The Avalokitesvara statue (Oc Eo culture) dates back to the 8th-9th centuries. This artifact is housed at the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2013.

- The Sa Dec Buddha statue (Oc Eo culture) dates back to the 4th century. This artifact is housed at the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2013.

- The Binh Hoa Buddha statue (Oc Eo culture) dates back to the 4th-6th centuries. This artifact is housed in the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2013.

- The Lợi Mỹ Buddha statue (Óc Eo culture) dates back to the 4th-6th centuries. This artifact is housed in the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2012.

- The Buddha statue of Son Tho (Oc Eo culture) dates back to the 6th-7th centuries. This artifact is housed in the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2018.

- The "Luong Tai Hau seal" dates back to 1833. This artifact is housed in the Ho Chi Minh City Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2020.

- A printing plate for a "5 dong denomination promissory note," dating back to 1947. This artifact belongs to the Ho Chi Minh City Museum and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2018.

- The painting "Spring Garden of Central, Southern and Northern Vietnam" by artist Nguyen Gia Tri, created between 1969 and 1989. This artifact is housed at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2013.

- The painting "Young People of the Iron Citadel" by artist Nguyen Sang, sketched in 1967 and completed in 1978. This artifact is housed at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts and was recognized as a National Treasure in 2017.

The exhibition will take place from June 29th to August 10th, 2025 at the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum.

As of 2025, Vietnam will have 327 artifacts and groups of artifacts recognized by the Prime Minister as National Treasures. Of these, Ho Chi Minh City has 17 treasures currently housed at the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts, and the private collector Pham Gia Chi Bao.
