Hanoi , September 10, 2024 – The Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) successfully organized the Vietnam Business Forum for Sustainable Development (VCSF) 2024 with the theme “Net Zero 2050: Building Trust – Creating Transformation” in Hanoi. The event was attended by government leaders, experts and business leaders with the common goal of promoting sustainable development in Vietnam.
Within the framework of the Forum, representatives of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development updated the contents and orientations of green growth, promoting green transformation, the implementation process of Vietnam's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and important policies on reducing greenhouse gas emissions domestically and internationally to adapt to climate change.
Speaking at the Forum, Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of VCCI emphasized: " VCCI-VBCSD hopes that the Forum will be an opportunity for the business community to continue to join hands to affirm the belief and efforts of businesses in the process of realizing the goal of bringing net emissions to "0" by 2050. That belief is being nurtured and thereby creating strong impulses for synchronous transformation: transformation in awareness; transformation in thinking and transformation in action. We also clearly understand and believe that the efforts of the business community will always receive the guidance, companionship and support of the entire political system."
Mr. Binu Jacob, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, Co-Chairman of VBCSD speaking at VCSF Forum 2024
At the Forum, Mr. Binu Jacob, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, Co-Chairman of VBCSD, shared: “ This program takes place in a special situation, when Typhoon Yagi has just passed and left serious consequences for the northern provinces and the business community. More than ever, we all see the impact of climate change is very clear and sustainable development is the key to contributing to limiting, mitigating and adapting to climate change.”
In his presentation on the bottlenecks in the green transformation of businesses as well as how to turn sustainability into a value-creating driver, Mr. Binu Jacob said: “ Sustainability and profit are not two sides of a coin, but two sides of a calculation with equal results. Without one side, we cannot have the other. However, for businesses, one of the bottlenecks in the transformation process is connecting the sustainability story with the core motivations of consumers in making brand choice decisions. Businesses need to change their approach and connect with consumers based on understanding customers through their behaviors, needs, and preferences, so that sustainable initiatives can truly become a value-creating driver.”
Mr. Khuat Quang Hung, Director of External Relations and Communications, Nestlé Vietnam shares about the role of people in sustainable development
Regarding the motivation and role of people in green transformation, Mr. Khuat Quang Hung, Director of External Affairs and Communications, Nestlé Vietnam, shared strategies for developing human resources with knowledge and expertise related to sustainable development issues. He also introduced the Green Ambassador Program, an initiative of Nestlé Vietnam, to build a core team of employees in awareness raising activities and internal communication campaigns to spread green lifestyles in the company.
It can be seen that, to become a pioneer in the field of sustainable development, Nestlé always emphasizes the central role of people and the issue of changing thinking in approaching sustainability issues. Not only starting from the responsibility of the head of the enterprise in setting out specific strategies, goals and roadmaps, enterprises need to implement synchronously in all departments to jointly achieve the set ESG goals. The most important thing is to turn investment in sustainable activities into a driving force to bring value not only to the environment and community but also to the benefit of the enterprise.
Held annually since 2014, VCSF is the most important event of the year for VCCI in general and VBCSD in particular to promote dialogue on sustainable business development between the business community and the Vietnamese Government. As an enterprise voted by VCCI and VBCSD as the most sustainable enterprise in the manufacturing sector for many years, Nestlé Vietnam has always been a pioneer in sharing and spreading good practices in this field, aiming to promote sustainable development in Vietnam as well as realize Vietnam's Net Zero commitment by 2050.
