Nestled among majestic limestone mountains, Bat Cave is a must-see destination on your journey to explore the West of Thanh Hoa. From the center of Thanh Hoa province, visitors travel more than 100km to reach Kho Muong village (Pu Luong commune, formerly Thanh Son commune, Ba Thuoc district).

This cave belongs to the ancient karst system of Phu Kho Muong mountain range, formed about 250 million years ago. Bat Cave is considered one of the most unique caves in the core area of Pu Luong nature reserve.

Arriving here, visitors will be welcomed by the pristine natural scenery: green valleys, terraced fields stretching to the foot of the mountain, the sound of babbling streams and cool air all year round.

Inside the cave is a world of stalactites of all shapes and sizes: some resemble lotus buds, others resemble the roofs of Thai stilt houses, or streams of white stalactites like petrified waterfalls hanging from the cave ceiling. When the flashlight shines, the stalactites reflect a faint golden light, making the scene as mysterious as a mythical world .

Going deeper into the cave, the space becomes wider. The highlight is the “big room” area - a flat rock area about 30m long, like a natural stage in the middle of the mountain. In the deepest dark corners, the sound of bat wings clattering resounds. Flocks of bats hang from the damp cave roof, waiting for dusk to fly over the fields to find food.

Faced with such enchanting beauty, in recent years, Bat Cave has attracted many tourists, especially international tourists, to visit and explore.

Mr. Lo Van Nam, a local tour guide who has been attached to this place for more than 10 years, shared: “Bat Cave is like a rough gem of Thanh land. I still remember the first time I led a group of tourists in, everyone was amazed as if they were lost in an ancient world in the heart of the mountain.”

Once a place where Kho Muong people stopped by to get water or avoid the sun, Bat Cave has now become a community tourism highlight.

According to Mr. Ha Van Thao - Head of Kho Muong village, the local government has organized many training sessions, instructing people on how to do tourism and preserve the landscape.

“Up to now, many young people in the village have learned English and confidently introduced Bat Cave and Kho Muong culture to tourists from near and far,” said Mr. Thao.

Amidst the modern pace of life, Bat Cave still retains its pristine beauty, becoming a symbol of majestic nature and the enduring vitality of the Thai community in the Pu Luong mountains.

Currently, visitors to explore Bat Cave can stay at homestays of households in Kho Muong village. To date, there are about 10 households operating tourism services, providing community tourism experiences for visitors.
