Ho Chi Minh City has appeal to international residents

According to the City Pulse 2025 report recently released by the Gensler Research Institute, Ho Chi Minh City ranks 2nd out of 65 cities worldwide with the best ability to "retain" residents, just after Taipei (Taiwan, China).

Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Khoa Luan - Director of Anh Viet Hop on - Hop off Vietnam Travel Company, commented that Ho Chi Minh City is ranked 2nd globally in the ranking of cities that "retain" residents the best, which is completely understandable, because this city has long possessed many advantages in terms of living environment, living costs and integration capabilities.

"To become an attractive city in Asia or the world , Ho Chi Minh City has a very special advantage. This is truly a land of "good land for birds to nest" - a place with a fast growth rate and opening up opportunities for residents from many other countries to easily integrate" - Mr. Luan said.

In Ho Chi Minh City, foreigners often receive respect from the community, easily find suitable jobs, while the cost of living is not too high.

To continue to maintain and promote this advantage, according to Mr. Luan, there needs to be long-term policies, including a nationality policy. In the short term, Ho Chi Minh City has all the factors of "heavenly time - favorable location - harmony of people" to become an ideal place for international residents to live, integrate and develop long-term.

"With just an average level of education or higher, international residents can completely integrate and live well in Ho Chi Minh City. This is different from some developed countries," Mr. Luan analyzed.

Ho Chi Minh City has long been a gathering place for people from all over the world. This characteristic has created a strong international influence, attracting more and more foreigners to work and live.

"If immigration policy is adjusted in a more open direction in the future, Ho Chi Minh City can completely become a large-scale city, attracting people, money and investment to promote strong tourism development," Mr. Luan emphasized.

In-depth destination development

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said that the high rate of residents wanting to stay long-term is a favorable foundation for developing a destination with depth. When people feel confident and connected to the city, they are not only service users but also storytellers, companions, and inspirations for tourists.

Ho Chi Minh City is no longer just a place to attract people to settle down for a short time, but is gradually becoming a city for long-term living. This is an important foundation for sustainable tourism development.

In the post-merger strategy, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism aims to develop a system of inter-regional destinations. Ho Chi Minh City will play the role of a central organization and connection, while Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (old) will be complementary spaces for ecology, resorts, and tourism industry. Tourists not only come to visit, but can also stay to experience an open, convenient, and unique urban lifestyle.

According to the official report of the Gensler Research Institute - the unit that conducted the City Pulse 2025 survey, the results were compiled from more than 33,000 residents in 65 cities worldwide.

Each participant was evaluated on 152 factors, ranging from urban amenities, living environment, transportation infrastructure to personal feelings, pride and attachment to the city.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City scored high not in traditional infrastructure criteria, but in 5 outstanding emotional factors, including:

- Don't feel bored living in the city

- Feels like "home"

- Proud of my city

- The city is a place where you can stay for a long time.

- The level of attachment between residents and the city deepens over time

Ho Chi Minh City has a rate of 61% of residents saying they have "little or no intention of leaving".
