Medical team in Con Dao saves fisherman with critical injuries

On November 15, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that the medical team of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center and the rotating team of doctors working in Con Dao coordinated with multiple specialties to save the life of a fisherman with multiple injuries in Con Dao.

Specifically, at 10:30 a.m. on November 14, the patient was transferred by ambulance with multiple injuries all over his body, blood loss, and life-threatening injuries.

Through examination, the doctors recorded that the patient's injuries were extremely serious, with exposed bone wounds on the forehead, skull fractures, and epidural hematoma on the right forehead; the left shoulder and arm had many complex injuries, including open fractures of the upper end of the humerus and acromion, ruptures of important tendons and muscles (supraspinatus tendon, subscapularis muscle, teres minor muscle, partial biceps tendon), and torn shoulder joint capsule; the right shoulder and arm had open fractures of the shoulder bone and torn subscapularis muscle; the back and hand had deep paraspinal skin and muscle lacerations and a wound on the back of the left hand.

Faced with the complex situation of multiple trauma, doctors in Con Dao urgently held an online multi-specialty consultation with leading experts from People's Hospital 115 (specialty in Neurosurgery), Orthopedic Trauma Hospital (specialty in Orthopedics), and Binh Dan Hospital (specialty in Anesthesia and Resuscitation).

The experts agreed to take the patient to the operating room immediately for urgent hemostasis and wound repair.

The surgery was successful after 3 hours. Currently, the patient is temporarily stable and is being actively monitored for epidural hematoma and other complex injuries.
