Mr. Milos Vystrcil is sympathetic to Vietnam, interested and willing to facilitate the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic to integrate well with the host country.
The official delegation accompanying the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic on an official visit to Vietnam includes 10 members who are leaders of ministries, committees of the Senate, relevant agencies and the Office of the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic.
Vietnam and the Czech Republic established diplomatic relations on February 2, 1950 and upgraded them to a strategic partnership in 2025.
In recent years, bilateral trade has grown but remains modest compared to its potential. According to statistics from the Customs Department, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and the Czech Republic in 2024 will reach more than 2 billion USD.
Vietnam mainly exports to the Czech Republic coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, agricultural products, seafood, footwear, textiles, computer components and handicrafts; while importing electronic products, machinery, chemicals, garments, pharmaceuticals, agricultural machinery, mechanical products, glass, etc.
The Czech Republic is one of the first member states of the European Union to ratify the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
Regarding investment, the Czech Republic currently has 41 FDI projects in Vietnam with a total capital of 92 million USD, focusing on the processing-manufacturing and mining sectors. Notably, the automobile manufacturing joint venture project between SKODA Auto Group and Thanh Cong Group in Quang Ninh, worth 450 million USD, has been in operation since April 2025.
Educational cooperation has also been promoted by the two countries. During the period 1999-2014, the Czech Government granted 4-5 scholarships each year to Vietnamese students and researchers. The two sides have signed an educational cooperation agreement for the new period.
There are currently nearly 100,000 Vietnamese people living in the Czech Republic. The local government creates favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to reside and do business in accordance with the law. On July 3, 2013, the Czech government added a representative of Vietnamese Czechs to the Council of Ethnic Minorities, officially recognizing Vietnamese Czechs as the 14th ethnic minority in the country.
