At the ceremony, the leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Decision No. 1507/QD-TTg dated July 10, 2025 of the Prime Minister on the establishment of the APEC 2027 National Committee to assist the Prime Minister in researching, directing, and coordinating the settlement of tasks related to the preparation and organization of conferences and related activities of APEC Year 2027.
The National Committee is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Vice Chairmen of the National Committee include: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang (Permanent Vice Chairman); Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan. The National Committee is responsible for assisting the Prime Minister in directing, urging and coordinating between the Sub-Committees and the Secretariat, ministries, branches, localities and relevant agencies in the preparation and organization of conferences and activities of APEC Year 2027.
At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the APEC 2027 National Committee Bui Thanh Son stated that the establishment of the Committee at this time is an important initial step, demonstrating Vietnam's strong commitment and serious preparation for its role as host of APEC 2027. In the context of the rapidly changing, complex and unpredictable international and regional situation, the requirements for Vietnam are very high - not only inheriting the successes of the two previous hosting periods, but also breaking through, reaching new heights, affirming Vietnam's leading role and strategic thinking in the regional cooperation structure.
Two successful hostings in 2006 and 2017 are a solid foundation for Vietnam to confidently enter APEC 2027 with a new vision, high determination and aspiration for breakthrough. In the context of rapid and complex changes in the region and the world, requiring members to continue to be steadfast in the core values and goals of the Forum, hosting APEC 2027 will be an important test to affirm Vietnam's leading position and adaptability, to be able to transform challenges into opportunities, and turn vision into concrete actions.
With a strategic vision, innovative thinking and responsibility to make substantial contributions to the forum, APEC 2027 needs to build cooperative contents that are linked to APEC's long-term vision and goals of promoting a free, open, and rules-based multilateral trading system, while keeping up with the pace of the times - especially major trends such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, green growth, sustainable development, circular economy, narrowing the digital gap and improving the ability to respond to global fluctuations...
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that hosting APEC 2027 is both a great honor for Vietnam and a noble international responsibility, demonstrating Vietnam's sense of responsibility to the international community, proving the trust and confidence of APEC members in Vietnam because this is the third time Vietnam has hosted APEC.
The year 2027 marks nearly 30 years since Vietnam became an APEC member. Throughout that journey, the Asia-Pacific region and the APEC Forum have always been important priorities in Vietnam's foreign policy. For Vietnam, APEC cooperation is an important driving force to open markets, attract investment, transfer technology and improve the competitiveness of the economy. Cooperation with APEC members is of great significance to Vietnam.
The Prime Minister stated that the world and the region are witnessing fundamental and profound changes. However, the more difficulties and challenges there are, the more united Vietnam is, rising up, rising strongly, calmly dealing with current developments in the world. According to the Prime Minister, economies need to unite to overcome difficulties and challenges because no country can solve global, people-wide, comprehensive problems on its own, so it is necessary to unite, internationalize, promote multilateralism, and help each other overcome difficulties and challenges. Sharing about the socio-economic development situation of Vietnam, especially the development goals and vision, the Prime Minister stated that this is the third time Vietnam has hosted APEC, so it has more experience, efforts, and tries its best to organize more successfully than the first and second times. Vietnam tries to learn and refer to the experiences of economies hosting APEC; believes that Vietnam can do this.
The Prime Minister shared that Vietnam is making efforts to invest in building infrastructure in Phu Quoc to welcome the APEC 2027 event, especially building a conference center and other necessary infrastructure, which is also an opportunity for Vietnam in general and Phu Quoc in particular to develop. The Prime Minister hopes that international friends will have the opportunity to visit Phu Quoc Island, where projects are actively being implemented. The goal for Vietnam is to succeed in both multilateral and bilateral aspects, both regional and international aspects, contributing to concretizing APEC's action programs and visions, further promoting APEC's role as a growth engine, linking the regional and world economies. At the same time, affirming Vietnam's position and stature in the international arena; strengthening bilateral relations between Vietnam and member economies and other partners; Strive for the activities to be a comprehensive success in all aspects of politics, economics, culture, society, and people-to-people exchange, bringing benefits to the people and business community; success in all aspects from content to organization, reception, logistics; learn from experience from previous events.
For the APEC 2027 National Committee, the Prime Minister proposed "5 developments": Promoting the spirit of cooperation among APEC members; Promoting the spirit of innovation; Promoting the consensus, determination, and high sense of responsibility among agencies and localities in organizing, so that projects and works ensure quality, architecture, and progress; Promoting the support and coordination of APEC members, the participation and contributions of people, the business community, and public-private cooperation in organizing APEC; Promoting the results of the APEC Conference to be more effective in developing each country's economy, realizing the goals of each APEC session.
The Prime Minister believes that with the spirit of unity, determination, and support of international friends and the APEC Secretariat, APEC Year 2027 will be a great success, and the APEC 2027 National Committee will operate as effectively as possible, contributing to peace, cooperation, development, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
