Awakening Chu Dang Ya - a sleeping volcano in the Central Highlands

The million-year-old Chu Dang Ya volcano on the Pleiku plateau, after millions of years of dormancy, is about to be awakened as Gia Lai province is determined to include this site in the planning of the Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya Tourist Area.

Chu Dang Ya volcano in Bien Ho commune, Gia Lai province, is one of the most unique ancient volcanic craters in Vietnam. According to geologists, this volcano was active millions of years ago, leaving behind a large crater and a layer of fertile basalt soil stretching across its slopes.

Today, Chu Dang Ya has ceased erupting. This "dormancy" has created a serene and captivating natural landscape.

During the dry season, especially in November, the mountain slopes are dyed a brilliant yellow by the wild sunflowers, a characteristic flower of the Central Highlands, transforming the area into an attractive destination for tourists and photographers.

Besides its scenic beauty, Chu Dang Ya also holds significant cultural value. The mountain is a sacred symbol for the indigenous Jrai people, associated with many legends and traditional folk festivals.

With its unique geological features, abundant nature, and distinctive local culture, Chu Dang Ya is gradually establishing itself as one of the must-visit destinations in Gia Lai province , promising unforgettable experiences for visitors.

Include the Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya tourist area in the planning.

Regarding this scenic spot, recently Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, held a meeting with relevant agencies to research and propose a planning scheme for the Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya Tourist Area.

The Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee assessed the Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya tourist area as a unique geological and landscape resource of Gia Lai province, possessing special natural and cultural value.

The provincial leadership has instructed the Department of Construction to coordinate with other agencies to urgently implement the tourism development plan in this area, to be completed by October 2025.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan requested that the planning of the Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya tourist area be carried out systematically and in-depth, ensuring a harmonious balance between the preservation of cultural heritage, natural landscapes, and sustainable tourism development. It should have a comprehensive, long-term development orientation, attracting a large number of locals and tourists.
