During the recent storm and flood, these 5 communes and wards suffered heavy damage. After the storm, localities are focusing all resources, seeking support from the Central Government, the province and the armed forces to urgently overcome the damage, restore production and stabilize people's lives soon. Along with that, Gia Lai province directed units to review planning and rearrange residents in dangerous areas to ensure long-term safety.

In Tuy Phuoc Dong commune, the locality has developed a resettlement plan for more than 800 households in An Loi, Lac Dien and Dong Dien villages with a land fund of more than 20 hectares. Tuy Phuoc commune plans to arrange about 300 households to a resettlement area of nearly 7 hectares in Tan Thuan village. Tuy Phuoc Tay commune also plans to relocate 40 households in vulnerable areas to a resettlement area of more than 2 hectares in Ngoc Thanh 1 village.

After inspecting the severely affected residential areas and the planned resettlement locations, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan requested localities to continue reviewing planning, synthesizing resettlement needs, building concentrated resettlement projects and interspersed arrangements. Housing support must ensure compliance with policies: households whose houses collapsed but are in safe locations will be supported to build houses on site; households in dangerous areas that are forced to relocate will be allocated land and supported to build houses in resettlement areas.

Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan also came to inspect the progress of repair work on the Ha Thanh and Cat river dykes. At the scene, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized the particularly important role of the dyke system in natural disaster prevention; requested departments, branches and localities to review and strictly handle cases of encroachment on the dyke protection corridor, and prevent new violations to ensure flood safety.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee visited, encouraged and presented gifts to affected families in 5 communes and wards; at the same time, he informed that the province has issued emergency support programs to quickly repair damage and rebuild houses for people. The support levels include: 60 million VND/completely collapsed house; 5 million VND for a house with a completely damaged roof; 2 million VND for a partially damaged house. In addition, poor, near-poor and extremely disadvantaged households whose houses were flooded will receive support of 2 million VND/household/month for 3 months.
Urgent evacuation of 16 residential areas at risk from natural disasters
On the same day, Mr. Cao Thanh Thuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province, said that the Provincial People's Committee has approved the list of projects and plans to arrange and stabilize residents in urgent disaster areas.

Accordingly, the province will urgently evacuate 16 residential areas with 1,269 households in areas at high risk of landslides, high tides, and flooding. "We are racing to complete procedures, quickly deploy the project, and are determined to complete it before Lunar New Year so that people can live in peace," said Mr. Thuong.
According to Mr. Thuong, the whole province currently has about 30-40 vulnerable areas, at high risk of natural disasters. In the immediate future, the province will prioritize resettlement of residents in areas with landslides, floods, and high tides; at the same time, it will continue to mobilize resources to arrange and stabilize residents in risky areas, in order to minimize long-term damage caused by natural disasters.
