Screening of films 'Red Rain' and 'Tunnels' during Vietnamese film week in Laos

From December 2 to December 6, Vietnam Film Week will take place in Laos, bringing 6 outstanding works of recent Vietnamese cinema.

The event was held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (December 2, 1975 - December 2, 2025), aiming to introduce Vietnamese culture and strengthen the traditional relationship between the two countries.

The opening film is the documentary film “President Kaysone Phomvihane and Vietnam” (30 minutes) which will be shown at 3 p.m. at the Lao National Palace of Culture. The film, produced by the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio, tells the story of his life and contributions to the country, as well as his deep attachment to Vietnam.

On the same theme of Vietnam-Laos friendship is the work Two Mothers (96 minutes) by the late director Nguyen Khac Loi, Vietnam Feature Film Studio. The film honors the friendship and sacrifice of the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos during the Indochina War.

In addition, the Film Week also introduces works on the theme of security and defense that have caused a stir in Vietnam in the past year: Red Rain, Deadly Battle in the Sky and Tunnels.

Of which, Red Rain of the People's Army Cinema has earned 714 billion VND in domestic ticket sales. The film is set in the 81-day and night battle to protect Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, which was also one of the fiercest battles of the resistance war against the US.

During the same period of the anti-American resistance war, there was the film Tunnels: The Sun in the Dark about the underground battle of the people of Cu Chi. The film earned 175 billion VND, extending the interest and love of Vietnamese audiences for the historical genre after the phenomenon of Dao, Pho and Piano in 2024.

Along with that, the film week brings the film Deadly Battle in the Air produced by People's Police Cinema, recreating a part of the real hijacking incident that took place in 1977, but was little known before. The film is dramatic with breathtaking and engaging action scenes, compared by the audience to "like a Hollywood movie."

The last film of the week is I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass. The film is a state-ordered production, adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh, released in 2015, bringing back emotional and warm childhood memories of the Vietnamese countryside in the 1980s.

The series is being screened for free at two locations: the Lao National Cultural Palace and Patuxay Square, to expand its reach to a wider audience.
