Teacher Lo Thi Quyen introduces the "Auntie Snail" smoked buffalo meat product.
Recognizing that smoked buffalo meat – a traditional specialty of the Thai ethnic group in the highlands of Muong Lat – was always popular with customers, and driven by the desire to preserve her ancestors' craft, she decided to try making it herself, both for her family and to sell to friends and colleagues. Thus, the idea of turning smoked buffalo meat into a marketable product was born. However, bringing the product to market was not easy due to a lack of marketing channels. While still struggling to find her direction, the national digital transformation program, implemented in her locality, opened up a new path for her. She began learning how to take photos, shoot videos , write promotional articles, and post them on social media platforms like Facebook, Zalo, and TikTok. The simple images of the marinating and smoking process she shared quickly attracted the attention of customers.
Ms. Quyen shared: "Initially, I tried posting my products online to see if anyone would buy them, but unexpectedly, orders started pouring in after just a few weeks. Before, I thought social media was only for communication, but now I realize it's a bridge to bring highland specialties to all over the country."
To enhance the value of her product, she established the "Dì Ốc" (Auntie Snail) smoked buffalo meat processing facility. From just a few dozen kilograms of smoked buffalo meat per month, her "Dì Ốc" product now boasts a stable sales volume of hundreds of kilograms per month, becoming a 3-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) product of the locality. Not only does it create jobs for family members, but her facility also provides additional income for many women in the village. Furthermore, she enthusiastically shares her experience with women's and youth association members in the commune. At many branch meetings, she becomes a "special teacher," guiding them on how to photograph products, post sales ads, create QR codes for payment, and how to handle online deliveries.
According to Trinh Van Bac, Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Lat commune, "Ms. Lo Thi Quyen's 'Auntie Snail' smoked buffalo meat model is a prime example of implementing digital transformation associated with the development of OCOP products. Her success not only contributes to increasing family income and creating local jobs, but also serves as an inspiration, spreading the spirit of innovation and creativity in the community."
Thanks to her practical efforts and contributions, teacher Lo Thi Quyen was recently honored with a Certificate of Commendation from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for her outstanding achievements in patriotic emulation movements during the 2020-2025 period.
