The OCOP program in Bac Ninh is not only about economic development but also redefining the value of agricultural products. The combination of modern technology, creativity and passion for preserving traditional values has contributed to raising the level of many agricultural products with more sustainable economic value. From turmeric plants, pigs, fish, to green tea leaves, with modern, closed production and processing technology and smart market access strategies, OCOP products have been born and reached the domestic and international markets. Up to now, the province has had 1,204 OCOP products, many of which meet 3-star and 4-star standards. The event of Luc Ngan litchi products achieving 5-star certification has become a source of pride for local people.
Behind every product is a story of perseverance and aspiration to reach further. Cooperatives, businesses and production households in Bac Ninh not only produce for sale, but also to tell stories about the culture, people and homeland. They have helped familiar ingredients become highly competitive products, meeting consumer tastes.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, a member of Linh Dang Trading and Production Cooperative (Bong Lai Ward) used to think that pig farming and food processing were just simple jobs to make a living. But when implementing the OCOP program, she saw an opportunity to help her family's traditional products become a real brand. Ms. Hang shared: "Previously, we only made ham and sausage by hand, selling them in the village or at the market. However, if we know how to apply technology, our products can go further." As a result, products such as sausages, young cartilage sausages and fresh sausages of the cooperative are not only recognized as OCOP products but also appear on the shelves of supermarkets, convenience stores and are even loved by consumers in neighboring provinces.
The story of Mr. Tran Van Dung, a young engineer at FUJIKO Pharmaceutical Company Limited in Vo Cuong Ward, is another example of innovation in the OCOP program. Born into a family with a tradition of growing turmeric, Mr. Dung has always wondered how to increase the value of this familiar plant. Turmeric is not just a spice or folk medicine; if processed properly, it can become a high-end health care product. With his passion and knowledge of technology, Mr. Dung has researched and applied nanotechnology to extract nano curcuminoid, a form of turmeric essence with superior absorption capacity. FUJIKO Company has invested in modern equipment to optimize the production process. As a result, three products: Kanzen Life Nutrient Drink, Curcumin Ukol and Nano Curcuminoid Fujiko produced by him have met the 4-star OCOP standard and are exported to markets such as Europe, China and ASEAN countries.
What makes Mr. Dung proud is not only his commercial success but also the health value his products bring to consumers. His facility also takes advantage of e-commerce to promote products, from platforms such as Shopee, Lazada to social networking sites, helping to reach a large number of customers.
The development of the OCOP program in Bac Ninh cannot be without the role of the local government. Recently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Provincial Cooperative Union have implemented many practical support policies, from providing funds to buy machinery, build cold storage, to organizing fairs, exhibitions and supporting brand building. Training programs on safe production processes, VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards and e-commerce skills are regularly organized, helping OCOP subjects improve their competitiveness. However, despite many successes, the OCOP program in Bac Ninh still faces many difficulties and challenges. Many production subjects are limited in capital and technology, while some products are still at the preliminary processing level, not fully exploiting the potential of added value. Brand building and packaging improvement need to be focused on to meet the increasingly high tastes of consumers. Bac Ninh has great opportunities to bring OCOP products further. Connecting with eco-tourism destinations, such as quan ho villages or historical sites, is opening up a new direction.
The development of e-commerce and online trading platforms is helping Bac Ninh's OCOP products access the market more easily. With the support of the government and the spirit of constant innovation, these products not only contribute to improving people's lives, but also gradually affirm their position on the global trade map.
