Drinking water from a stream, a man had an 8cm long leech parasitized in his nostril.

According to Mr. D.VH, about a week ago he went into the forest and drank water directly from the stream, then he had a prolonged nosebleed but did not feel any obvious pain.

On July 26, Binh Dinh Hospital ( Gia Lai ) announced that it had successfully removed a live leech about 8cm long from the nose of patient D.VH (53 years old, residing in the mountainous commune of An Lao, Gia Lai province).

Currently the patient's health is stable and in good condition.

Previously, the patient came to the hospital with a prolonged nosebleed of unknown cause, accompanied by difficulty breathing, nasal cavity swelling and a lot of fresh blood.

Through examination and endoscopy, the doctor discovered a leech crawling in the nasal cavity, a rare foreign object but very dangerous if not treated promptly.

Immediately, the on-duty team performed an endoscopy and successfully removed the 8cm leech. After the intervention, the patient stopped bleeding, could breathe easily and his health gradually stabilized.

According to Specialist Doctor Le Dinh Huong - Department of Otorhinolaryngology, who directly performed the endoscopy, said: “We discovered a live leech moving in the nasal cavity. This is a rare but extremely dangerous case. When leeches enter the nose, they cling to the mucosa with suction and secrete anticoagulants, making the patient feel no obvious pain, making it very difficult to detect. If left for a long time, the animal can cause serious blood loss, infection, or even crawl down the bronchi, causing airway obstruction, threatening the patient's life."

According to Mr. D.VH, about a week ago he went into the forest and drank water directly from the stream. After that, he had a prolonged nosebleed but did not feel any obvious pain.

He went to a private medical facility in Hoai Nhon for a check-up but no clear cause was found./.
