Vietnam-Thailand relations on the magical journey of friendship

The celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Thailand reaffirmed the close ties between Vietnam and Thailand, opening a new chapter in the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

According to a VNA reporter in Bangkok, on the evening of October 9, the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Attending the ceremony were First Vice Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives Chaiya Promma, Second Vice Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives Chalat Khamchuang, Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eksiri Pintaruchi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, representatives of leaders of ministries, branches, international organizations, ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic corps in Bangkok, representatives of businesses and the Vietnamese community in Thailand.

Expressing his pleasure in welcoming more than 1,000 distinguished guests to the celebration, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung said that Vietnam's 80-year journey has been full of hardships and sacrifices, but also of great pride.

From a poor, backward country, Vietnam today has risen to become a country of more than 100 million people, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024 reaching more than 476 billion USD. People's lives have improved significantly in terms of living standards, culture and education .

From a country that experienced many years of war, Vietnam now maintains diplomatic relations with all 193 member states of the United Nations, is a two-time member of the United Nations Security Council and continues to contribute military and police forces to peacekeeping operations of the world's largest multilateral organization.

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung also emphasized that with the aspiration to contribute to solving global challenges, Vietnam will host the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime and the High-Level Conference in Hanoi from October 25-26, 2025.

The Ambassador affirmed that despite many difficulties and challenges ahead, Vietnam is steadfast and determined to pursue the goal of “A rich people, a strong country, democracy, equality, and civilization,” building a powerful, prosperous, and happy country.

Vietnam consistently implements the foreign policy of "independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development; diversifying and multilateralizing foreign relations; being a friend, a reliable partner and an active, responsible member of the international community."

The Ambassador expressed his firm belief that the people of Vietnam and Thailand, together with colleagues and partners in both countries, will continue to foster, expand and deepen bilateral relations within the new framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, thereby contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world.

On behalf of the Thai Foreign Minister attending and speaking at the ceremony celebrating the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day, Deputy Foreign Minister Vijavat Isarabhakdi emphasized the deep-rooted and strong relationship between the two countries.

He said that over the past decades, the Thai and Vietnamese governments have joined hands to develop comprehensive bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two countries and peoples.

This friendship is important for the peace and prosperity of the Mekong sub-region and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a whole.

The upgrading of the relationship between the two countries to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership demonstrates the strong commitment of the two countries' leaders to deepen strategic dialogue, promote economic and social cooperation, and further strengthen the relationship and understanding between the two peoples.

Deputy Minister Vijavat said that next year, Thailand and Vietnam will celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, a memorable milestone on the wonderful journey of friendship, trust and shared aspirations.

He expressed his belief that together we will continue to write new chapters of success and cooperation, promoting peace, prosperity and maintaining growth for the two countries and peoples as well as for the entire region.

The 80th National Day celebration took place in a warm and joyful atmosphere of international friendship. At the ceremony, many friends expressed their good feelings and congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic achievements after 80 years of independence and enjoyed special Vietnamese cuisine./.
