Specialist Doctor 2 Hoang Trung Kien, is currently the Senior Executive Director, Medical Expertise of Saigon Medical Group. He and his colleagues, Associate Professor - Doctor - Doctor Phan Van Nam and Master - Doctor Nguyen Huynh Phuc, have just made an important mark in the international scientific community with their research on improved microsurgical techniques published in Clinical Ophthalmology.

This is a prestigious international scientific journal, belonging to the Q1 group (Quartile 1), ranked in the top 25% of journals with the highest impact factor in each specialized field. The journal is highly appreciated for its rigorous review process and high academic quality.

The research topic is "Evaluation of the results of anterior capsular tearing technique combined with 18G needle puncture at the outer 1/3 position of the capsule in cataract surgery for bulging white cataracts" . The research content focuses on solving one of the biggest challenges of eye surgery, which is the treatment of "bulging white cataracts" - a very severe form of the disease, causing the pressure inside the lens capsule to increase, making surgery difficult and potentially risky.

The improved technique proposed by Dr. Kien and his colleagues uses a specialized needle to safely "decompress" the lens before performing the main steps of surgery.

"With the new technique, surgical safety is enhanced, significantly reducing the risk of widespread capsular tear complications , thereby helping to prevent more serious consequences such as rupture of the lens suspension ligament, posterior capsule tear, or nucleus falling into the vitreous chamber, ensuring the position of the intraocular lens and long-term stable vision...", Dr. Kien shared.

This method has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of complications, improve safety and control, with a success rate of 98.9%.

The research has high practical applicability, providing effective, safe and accessible solutions for surgeons worldwide , especially in handling difficult and complex cataract cases.

In September 2025, at the European Ophthalmology Conference 2025, Cristalens (France) awarded the Artis PL M Expert Award - recognizing outstanding contributions in the application and development of cataract surgery techniques to specialist 2 Hoang Trung Kien.
