Doctor transferred for "watching football" while doing ultrasound

(Dan Tri) - A doctor at Thuong Xuan General Hospital (Thanh Hoa province) was transferred because he forgot to turn off his personal phone while performing an ultrasound on a patient.

On the morning of October 10, the Thanh Hoa Department of Health received a report from Thuong Xuan General Hospital regarding the incident in which a doctor of this unit was reported to have been watching football on his phone while performing an ultrasound on a patient.

The leader of Thanh Hoa Department of Health said: "The hospital has handled the incident in the spirit of openness. The Department of Health will also give general instructions to the entire industry after this incident."

According to a report from Thuong Xuan General Hospital, the incident occurred at around 7am on October 6th at the Diagnostic Imaging Department. When there was no patient, a doctor was using his personal phone. While using the phone, the patient's family brought the patient into the ultrasound room and recorded the video .

The hospital explained that the doctor had not turned off his phone and left the device on the desk while performing the ultrasound, leading to the patient's family misunderstanding that the doctor was looking at his phone while performing the ultrasound.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Board of Directors of Thuong Xuan General Hospital met with the patient and his family to explain and committed to correcting the working style of medical staff to ensure the quality of examination.

The conference of the Party Executive Committee and the Hospital Board of Directors informed the entire incident to the staff, criticized the department's collective on their style and attitude in serving patients. The conference also agreed to transfer the doctor who was reported to work at the Planning - Business Department of the hospital.
