According to a VNA reporter in Hong Kong (China), as of the afternoon of November 27, the apartment fire in Tai Po district had killed at least 55 people, including two Indonesians, and injured 76 people, including 12 in critical condition.
Vietnamese Consul General in Hong Kong Le Duc Hanh said the apartment fire in Tai Po caused extremely serious damage to people and property, including the deaths of a number of foreigners.
As of the afternoon of November 27, the Vietnamese Consulate General has not recorded any information about Vietnamese citizens among the victims of the fire.
The Consulate General held an urgent meeting and assigned staff to closely monitor the developments of the case, ready to deploy citizen protection work.
According to Consul General Le Duc Hanh, in the context of Hong Kong's urgent rescue work, the fire occurred in a crowded residential area, the identities of the victims may not have been fully determined, the Consulate General is always in a state of high readiness to support in case there are Vietnamese people affected by the fire.

On the afternoon of November 27, the Hong Kong government decided to set up a fund worth 300 million HKD (38.57 million USD) to support residents of buildings affected by the fire, providing emergency subsidies of 10,000 HKD to each household.
The Hong Kong government is coordinating public and private resources and mobilizing all available resources to provide necessary emergency accommodation for people.
Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu said the government's two areas of focus are criminal investigations into responsible parties and a review of current processes, from regulation and enforcement to licensing.
Hong Kong police said this was the deadliest fire in Hong Kong since 1948, surpassing a commercial building fire in Kowloon in November 1996 that killed 41 people.
Since March 2025, the Hong Kong government has begun phasing out bamboo scaffolding to ensure worker safety after 22 deaths related to this material between 2019 and 2024.
