Two precious artifacts have recently been recognized as National Treasures: the head of the Buddha statue at Linh Son Bac (dating from the 1st-3rd centuries AD) and the burial jar at Go Cay Tram (dating from the 4th-5th centuries AD).
The Linh Son Bac Buddha Head artifact was discovered during excavations at the Linh Son Bac site, part of the Oc Eo – Ba The archaeological complex. The Go Cay Tram jar burial artifact was discovered during a large-scale excavation that took place in late 2018 and early 2019.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhien, Director of the Oc Eo Cultural Relics Management Board, emphasized that the recognition of two national treasures of the Oc Eo culture by the Prime Minister is an event of special significance, affirming the immense value of the Oc Eo – Ba The Heritage, highlighting the historical and cultural depth of An Giang province. At the same time, this event contributes to enhancing the position and image of the locality in the flow of national culture and opens a new journey towards bringing the Oc Eo heritage to the world stage.
The Oc Eo – Ba The archaeological site, located in Oc Eo commune, An Giang province, covers an area of over 433 hectares. This area is densely packed with architectural, religious, residential, and production sites, reflecting the strong interaction between Eastern and Western cultures through its international trading port system.
The remaining relics, from temples and towers to stone, gold, pottery, and glass artifacts, as well as inscribed steles, are vivid evidence of the creative aspirations, trade, and integration of the ancient inhabitants of Southern Vietnam. In 2012, the Oc Eo – Ba The archaeological site was classified as a Special National Monument. In 2022, UNESCO officially included this site in the tentative list of World Cultural Heritage sites. Currently, An Giang province and domestic and international scientific agencies are actively completing the dossier, aiming to achieve World Cultural Heritage status by 2027, making Oc Eo – Ba The a global cultural symbol of Vietnam.
