The teacher lights up dreams, opens the door to integration for disabled students

Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, there are still warm moments of silence that make people slow down to feel love. One of those places is the Bac Ninh Comprehensive Social Protection Center - a special home for disabled children, where teachers quietly sow seeds of love, patience and hope.

Every morning, the campus is filled with the clear laughter of students with special circumstances. For those with hearing impairments, cognitive impairments or life skills impairments, the outside world is sometimes strange. But it is in this home that they find empathy, love and the skills to step out into the world.

Teacher Phan Thi Binh, born in 1985, Bac Ninh Social Protection Center, has 20 years of experience in childcare and teaching. Graduated in Special Education , from the beginning, Ms. Binh understood that this was not an easy path. Her students were all deaf, unable to hear or speak. Each child had different circumstances and their own world, so to impart knowledge to them, teachers needed to have observation, understanding and infinite perseverance.

Recalling the first day at the Bac Ninh Social Protection Center, Ms. Binh shared: Although she had determined that special education was a difficult path, with her love for children and passion for the profession, she was mentally prepared to go to class. Coming to school, each child has their own circumstances and stories, but most of them come from poor families in the highlands. In her heart is boundless love for children, and this place has become her indispensable second home.

Ms. Binh said that many deaf students come to class without knowing how to read or speak, just sitting quietly. Therefore, conveying language to the children is the first challenge for teachers. However, day by day, through understanding each child's situation, sign language lessons, through each look, each hug... the children gradually learn how to communicate, smile, and express their emotions. Gradually, witnessing the children's progress is an endless source of happiness for her.

At the grassroots level, academic achievement is not the only goal. Education here is to teach life skills, self-care, writing, calculation, love and respect for others. To do that, teachers must be patient, accompany and guide each child, in the smallest things such as guiding them to brush their teeth, wash their face, get dressed or organize their personal belongings.

Working at the Bac Ninh Social Protection Center, Ms. Vu Thi Thoa, who has been with the center for 15 years, said: When she first came to the Center, she was assigned to do social work. The more she interacted with the children and understood their special circumstances, the more she wanted to accompany them and help them improve. Therefore, after completing the pedagogical procedures, she switched to being a teacher to educate the children here.

Ms. Thoa said: The students here are mainly boarding students, slow to develop, deaf, unable to speak, their social skills and self-care are limited; therefore, being a teacher is also their second mother. She not only teaches knowledge, but also teaches them personality. The characteristics of these children are often very hot-tempered, difficult to control emotions, therefore, teachers and staff here need to understand the circumstances and personality of each child to help them find effective ways to solve problems.

Not only assigning tasks in class, teachers at the facility also arrange time to participate in other activities with the children such as making recycled items together, participating in cultural, physical and sports activities. In particular, she is an "Encyclopedia" to help children explore the world, teach vocational skills, sex education...

The teachers here are like fragrant flowers in everyday life, silently lighting up the dreams of students. They not only sow letters and knowledge but also sow faith, independence, joy of life and boundless love. Each smiling eye, each radiant smile of the students is a priceless gift for the teachers. Seeing the students grow up and integrate into the community, the teachers see that their efforts are worth it.

Like Nguyen Huy Hoang, born in 2010, when he first entered the facility he was born deaf and mute, unable to communicate using sign language and very shy. After a period of studying and accompanying the teachers, he learned to write, calculate, take care of himself, communicate with friends and teachers, and even confidently participate in community activities. Those small steps, to Hoang, were a whole world, but to the teachers, they were boundless happiness.

“When I first came here, I didn’t know how to read or write, didn’t know how to sign. Now I know how to add and subtract, how to write, and I know sign language. Here, I have friends like me, so I feel much happier than at home. Besides studying, we can also dance, sing, and play games,” Nguyen Huy Hoang shared in sign language.

Not only Hoang, but many other students have grown up at this school, learned to integrate into society, earn a living, and be independent with their own hands. And each of those small stories is a living proof of the power of love, patience and faith in humanity.

Special educators here understand that success is not about awards or scores, but about smiles, bright eyes, and steady steps of each student. This profession does not have brilliant glory, but quietly, persistently and deeply, writes beautiful stories about education, about faith and humanity.

In every classroom, in every hallway, in every daily activity, teachers like Ms. Binh, Ms. Thoa and their colleagues are sowing seeds of hope. Without love and patience, there would be no bright smiles, no steady steps from these special souls.

And at the Bac Ninh General Social Protection Facility, that story of love, faith and determination is still being written every day - a story that moves anyone who witnesses it and makes them believe more: Where there is love, there will be miracles.
