
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the Vietnam - EU relationship has recently had very dynamic, substantial and comprehensive developments in many fields, from politics - diplomacy, trade - investment to defense - security, climate change, agriculture, science - technology... The EU continues to be one of the leading important trade - investment partners of Vietnam, while Vietnam is the 16th largest trade partner of the EU and the largest in ASEAN.
Along with that, the implementation of the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has helped two-way trade between the two sides maintain a positive growth momentum, averaging 10 - 15%/year. The two sides are actively exchanging the content and roadmap to upgrade the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which will create a new framework to strongly promote trade and investment cooperation in the coming period.
The National Assembly Chairman also highly appreciated the EU-ASEAN Business Council for its practical contributions to promoting trade, investment and supporting the improvement of the business environment, especially in areas where the EU has strengths such as green transformation, circular economy , renewable energy, healthcare, food safety, pharmaceuticals, high technology and sustainable development. In addition, the EU-ASEAN Business Council is also an important bridge contributing to strengthening the trust and long-term cooperation prospects of European enterprises with Vietnam within the framework of the Vietnam-European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), the EVIPA, the Vietnam-European Union Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and bilateral cooperation mechanisms between Vietnam and the EU.
Also at the meeting, Mr. Jens Rübbert said that over the past decades, the EU-ASEAN Business Council has strived to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam through business exchanges and regular bilateral meetings. This year's visit is one of the largest delegations ever to Vietnam, with more than 120 delegates from more than 40 agencies and businesses. This shows the great interest of the European business community in the Vietnamese market; For the EU-ASEAN Business Council, Vietnam is always considered a key partner in the region, the Chairman of the EU-ASEAN Business Council affirmed. At the same time, he emphasized that Vietnam is currently the EU's largest trading partner in ASEAN, and the EU is the third largest investor in Vietnam. The EVFTA has contributed to promoting nearly 300 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover; Vietnam's exports to the EU market have grown steadily from 12-15% per year.
In addition to many other important contents mentioned at the working session, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man requested the EU-ASEAN Business Council and the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) and member enterprises to continue to coordinate effectively in implementing the EVFTA, further opening the market, in order to maintain the position of the two leading trade partners of each other. He asked enterprises to have a voice to promote the remaining 07 EU member countries (Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Slovenia) to complete the ratification of the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to create a new breakthrough in the investment field between the two sides; at the same time, have a voice to promote the European Commission to soon remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnam's seafood exports, contributing to ensuring supply for the EU market. The National Assembly Chairman also asked the European-ASEAN Business Council to continue supporting Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the EU supply chain through technology transfer, quality standards and connections with European corporations in priority areas of Vietnam such as high technology, digital economy and sustainable development, etc.
