In recent years, Nghe An has focused on promoting research, transfer and application of biotechnology in many fields, such as cultivation, animal husbandry, aquaculture, forestry and environmental treatment.
Cooperation between research institutes, businesses and farmers has created advanced production models, from fields, barns to ponds, contributing to the modernization of local agriculture .

The role of "Biotechnology" in sustainable agricultural development and ensuring food security.
In cultivation, biotechnology helps select and breed plant varieties with high yield, good resistance to pests and diseases, and adaptability to climate change. Rice, corn, beans, cassava, tea or medicinal plants are improved thanks to tissue culture techniques, seed treatment and microbial preparations. At the same time, the use of biological fertilizers and biological preparations instead of plant protection chemicals helps protect the land, limit pollution and improve the quality of agricultural products. Many production areas according to VietGAP, IPM or ICM standards have produced outstanding yields, clean and safe products, meeting export and domestic consumption needs.
In livestock and aquaculture, biotechnology is applied to increase productivity, reduce disease risks and improve product quality. The application of microorganisms, biological bedding, waste treatment with biogas, and biological products helps increase the resistance of livestock, limit environmental pollution and reduce the use of antibiotics. Many farms have applied crossbreeding technology, upgraded herds of cows, pigs, and poultry, and applied biotechnology in shrimp and fish farming, improving survival rates, meat quality, clean shrimp and fish, meeting food safety standards.
Not only in production, forestry and medicinal plants also benefit from biotechnology. Tissue culture techniques help preserve gene sources, quickly propagate precious tree species, native forest trees and medicinal plants such as Puxailaileng ginseng, Panax notoginseng, Morinda officinalis. Thanks to that, Nghe An has developed a sustainable forestry and medicinal plant economy , while protecting rare gene sources and maintaining the native ecosystem.
The application of biotechnology is also accompanied by support policies on seeds, microbial fertilizers, biological products, and technology transfer training for farmers. Production models have been widely deployed, thereby helping farmers master technology, improve skills, increase income and reduce dependence on manual labor. Many local businesses also apply advanced quality control and processing processes, ensuring that output products meet export standards.
One of the highlights of biotechnology applications is towards green, clean and sustainable agriculture. Biological solutions help save water and energy, limit fertilizers and pesticides, reduce emissions and environmental pollution. The closed production chain, from breeding, care, harvesting to processing, ensures harmony between economic efficiency, public health and environmental protection.
Lessons from Nghe An clearly show that when the state, scientists, businesses and farmers work together, biotechnology is not only a scientific concept but also a practical tool, creating economic and social value. Nghe An is gradually forming a biological agriculture, where technology, nature and people converge, towards a modern, sustainable and competitive agricultural future in the international market.
Thanks to biotechnology, Nghe An is opening a new era for agriculture: higher productivity, better quality agricultural products, protected environment, and increasingly improved farmers' lives. This is the driving force for the province's agriculture to rise up, becoming a model for other localities, and at the same time affirming the position of biotechnology in the comprehensive transformation of Vietnam's agriculture sector.
