U.17 Vietnam proactively plays "preemptive"

U.17 Vietnam entered the "final" match of Group C of the U.17 Asian qualifiers with the top position in the group while U.17 Malaysia ranked second due to a lower goal difference. Coach Cristiano Roland and his team only needed a draw to qualify for the finals and U.17 Vietnam did more than that.

Malaysian football is in crisis due to the naturalization scandal and FAM is now very interested in youth football to try to regain its image in the international arena. Today, the acting President of the Malaysian Football Federation went to Vietnam to attend the PVF stadium to cheer for the players.

Vietnam U17 took the initiative and quickly made a difference. In the 4th minute, from the first free kick of the match, the Malaysia U17 goalkeeper pushed the ball to the right position for Van Duong to run in and pass to Manh Cuong to finish close to the goal, opening the score 1-0. The early goal made it easier for the home team to deploy a high-pressing game, causing Malaysia U17 to constantly fall into a defensive position.

During the remaining time of the first half, U.17 Vietnam created a series of dangerous opportunities. Sy Bach and Minh Thuy both had chances to shoot but lacked a bit of accuracy to double the gap. Another time, the ball even found the post after Sy Bach's rebound kick. On the defensive front, goalkeeper Ly Xuan Hoa had an excellent save against Nabil's close-range shot, thereby maintaining the advantage.

The home team's pressure finally translated into a second goal. In the 43rd minute, Van Duong dribbled at full speed down the left wing and crossed for Anh Hao to finish, raising the score to 2-0 before the break.

Entering the second half, U.17 Vietnam continued to maintain the attacking tempo and the first half scenario repeated itself. Right at the 50th minute, from a chaotic situation in the penalty area, Van Duong finished with two shots to score the third goal for the home team. This was a match that clearly showed the mark of this player when he scored, assisted and continuously created trouble for the defense of U.17 Malaysia.

However, after that, U.17 Vietnam suffered consecutive losses in terms of force. In the 60th minute, Van Duong - the most outstanding player from the beginning of the match - was forced to leave the field due to injury.

Not long after, it was Dai Nhan's turn to be carried off the field on a stretcher, forcing the coaching staff to change personnel. Manh Quan was brought in as a replacement, while Quy Vuong also left the field to make way for Nguyen Hiep Dai Viet Nam.

In the 74th minute, Sy Bach handled the ball delicately in the U.17 Malaysia penalty area, before unleashing a tricky shot, scoring the final goal of 4-0 for U.17 Vietnam. This victory brought U.17 Vietnam to the 2026 AFC U-17 Championship with an all-win record and, more impressively, not conceding any goals. Previously, U.17 Vietnam had won: 6-0 against U.17 Singapore, 14-0 against U.17 Northern Mariana Islands, 2-0 against U.17 Hong Kong and 4-0 against U.17 Macau.

VFF gives big reward to U.17 Vietnam

President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan congratulated the good results that U.17 Vietnam has achieved: "U.17 Vietnam played very maturely, with sharp and modern playing style. The spirit of the team was resilient and brave. Coach Roland and the coaching staff helped the young players show commendable performances. The success of U.17 Vietnam further affirmed the deep vision of VFF, which has invested in the right direction and systematically for youth football - the future of Vietnamese football. U.17 Vietnam and other youth teams and national teams are well taken care of and have a clear direction."

VFF has decided to give U.17 Vietnam a bonus of 600 million VND for their achievement of winning a ticket to the U.17 Asian Cup finals, keeping a clean sheet and winning all (scoring 30 goals) in the group stage.

Thus, in 2025, up to this point, excellent results have been achieved, with 6 teams winning tickets to the Asian Finals. Including: U.17 Vietnam, U.23 Vietnam, men's futsal, Vietnam women's team, U.20 Vietnam women.

The 2026 AFC U-17 Championship qualifiers will be held in a new format. A total of 38 teams will be divided into 7 groups, including 3 groups of 6 teams and 4 groups of 5 teams.
