List of surprises

On the morning of November 30, Coach Kim Sang Sik finalized the list of 23 players participating in the 33rd SEA Games. The five names that had to say goodbye were Thanh Trung, Duc Viet, Van Ha, Quang Kiet and Vi Hao.

If the first four cases were all predicted in advance, then the elimination of Vi Hao surprised many people, because in the context of the U22 Vietnam attack line still struggling to find sharpness, the omission of a striker who used to play for the Vietnam national team and is in the group of players with the best ability to create breakthroughs is truly shocking.

Vi Hao is not a typical striker, but his speed, penetrating ability and especially his "rather sensitive" feeling in front of goal are really needed for U22 Vietnam at SEA Games 33.

But in the end, the decision was made by coach Kim Sang Sik to the surprise of experts, fans and the media.

Mr. Kim Sang Sik is unpredictable.

Of course, Coach Kim Sang Sik has his own reasons. Either Wei Hao's physical condition is not guaranteed after the injury or he has seen technical factors that are beyond the perspective of the majority. However, eliminating a player with a lot of battle experience, capable of seizing opportunities in key situations, still leaves a big regret.

Notably, coach Kim Sang Sik's decision did not only cause controversy in the striker position. Thanh Trung, a name that was considered to be able to bring softness and creativity to the midfield, was eventually eliminated, even though the Korean captain himself called the midfielder who used to play for the Bulgarian youth teams to return to the U22 Vietnam team in the final training session to prepare for the upcoming SEA Games.

Mr. Kim Sang Sik's decision has caused many mixed opinions, and the results at the SEA Games will be the most accurate answer.

Looking at the way Mr. Kim Sang Sik built the team from the U23 Asian qualifiers to the Panda Cup and now the SEA Games, it can be seen that the Korean captain's philosophy is to prioritize discipline, stability and efficiency in the system over individual factors.

Therefore, the list of U22 Vietnam players may be shocking but also reflects the unpredictability in the thinking of coach Kim Sang Sik. And from there, SEA Games 33 becomes a huge test for how effective the personnel decision just made will be, or the rigidity of the Korean captain.
