On the afternoon of October 10, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong signed and issued a document conveying the direction of the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on supporting the operating costs of Metro Line 1, Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien route, to serve people free of charge during the New Year and Lunar New Year 2026.
Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved the proposal of the Department of Construction for the Urban Railway One Member Co., Ltd. to coordinate with Hoa Sen Advertising Trading Joint Stock Company to implement a program to support funding and provide free travel for people on Metro Line 1 on January 1, 2026, and February 16 and 17, 2026 - the first and second days of the Lunar New Year.
During this time, the train will also be decorated with political propaganda combined with advertising, according to the guidance of the Department of Culture and Sports. The implementation budget will be arranged according to the proposal of Urban Railway Company No. 1.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Urban Railway Company No. 1 to proactively coordinate with relevant units, including the Public Transport Management Center and Hoa Sen Advertising Company, to implement the project in accordance with regulations and complete legal procedures before implementation.
Departments and branches such as the Department of Culture and Sports , Department of Finance, Department of Construction and Urban Railway Management Board are required to strengthen coordination, guidance and inspection of the implementation process, promptly report and propose to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to handle any problems, if any.
Free tickets for Metro Line 1 during Tet are expected to create favorable conditions for people to travel and experience modern means of transport, while contributing to promoting the image of a dynamic and civilized city in the first days of the new year.
