The Green List certification is a recognition of the effective, transparent and fair management and conservation according to strict international standards for Con Dao National Park. This is the 3rd Protected Area in Vietnam and the 101st Protected Area in the world to achieve the Green List title.
Con Dao National Park, formerly known as Con Dao Forbidden Forest, was established by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers in 1984. In 1993, the Prime Minister approved the Economic - Technical Justification for the establishment of Con Dao National Park to perform the functions and tasks of a special-use forest for both terrestrial and marine conservation in this sacred historical archipelago.
The park's functions are to protect and restore the ecosystem and precious flora and fauna on the island and the undersea buffer zone; to preserve and restore forests associated with the landscape and historical and cultural relics of the island; and to provide scientific research, education, and tourism services.
Over 40 years of establishment, existence and development, Con Dao National Park has been continuing to carry out the mission of a special-use forest to maintain more than 2.2 million hectares of special-use forest with the whole country, contributing to the implementation of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development; National Strategy for Biodiversity Conservation; contributing to the implementation of the Government's commitment to the international community, Vietnam by 2050 will have net emissions of 0 "Net Zero" along with the implementation of international conventions on biodiversity conservation; Convention on wetlands of international importance...
To achieve the Green List, Con Dao National Park has gone through a challenging journey, requiring a harmonious and smooth combination between science and real life, between theory and action, between conservation and development. This has been demonstrated through the recognition and recognition of Con Dao by international and domestic organizations and the world's leading travel magazines with prestigious titles in recent years.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh emphasized: "The fact that Con Dao National Park is listed in the Green List is a great source of pride, an important contribution to nature conservation and enhances the prestige of the locality as well as the country in the international arena. Therefore, each of us and visitors when coming to Con Dao need to respect and preserve the sacred historical values along with protecting the ecological environment and landscape here to contribute to preserving and inheriting for future generations."
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh also affirmed: "Ho Chi Minh City is always willing to welcome experts, scientists, international and domestic nature conservation organizations, and wise, environmentally-loving investors to continue to pay special attention to Con Dao, helping Con Dao with vision, knowledge and orientation for sustainable development in the future."
