On October 10, the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases informed that recently the hospital's doctors have received many cases of Dengue fever patients, especially those with severe cases who had to be hospitalized in a state of shock and severe bleeding.

Patient NVC (56 years old, in Lang Son ) was transferred to the Emergency Department, in a state of severe Dengue fever, with shock.

On October 4, patient C. developed a high fever with chills, headache, body aches, nausea and vomiting. After visiting a local medical facility, the test confirmed positive for dengue fever. The patient was hospitalized for 4 days but the condition did not improve, so he was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for further treatment.

At the Emergency Department, the patient was on the 5th day of the disease, with purple skin on the abdomen, legs and arms, scattered bleeding in the lower legs, signs of infection, rapid breathing requiring oxygen support. Tests showed that platelets had dropped to only 5 G/L, white blood cells: 3.7 G/L, pleural ultrasound showed bilateral pleural effusion and ascites. The patient was diagnosed with severe dengue fever with shock and received active treatment support from the beginning.

The second case is patient TVX (63 years old, in Hung Yen ). Five days before being admitted to the hospital, patient X. had a high fever of 38-39oC, severe headache, and body aches. Although he took fever-reducing medicine, the symptoms did not improve, accompanied by bleeding gums and black stools. He was taken to a medical facility near his home for examination. Here, he was diagnosed with Dengue fever, hospitalized for 3 days, but the condition did not improve, so the doctors transferred the patient to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases for further monitoring and treatment.

At the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, the patient was admitted with a state of generalized skin congestion, scattered small hemorrhages under the skin of the forearms and calves. Retesting showed that the platelet count had decreased to only 8 G/L, with a very high risk of bleeding. After 4 days of treatment, patient X.'s fever had gone down, his headache had subsided, his health had stabilized, and his platelet count had gradually increased.

The third case is patient V.D.L. (34 years old in Tay Phuong, Hanoi). After the 10th storm, there were many mosquitoes in his house. In front of his house there is a large canal, recently the water level has risen so there are more mosquitoes. On October 1, patient L. started having headaches, pain in the eye sockets and joint pain. He suspected he had dengue fever so he went to the doctor and tested positive for dengue fever. Mr. L. was prescribed treatment by the doctor and monitored at home. However, after 3 days, Mr. L. still had headaches, nausea, and his condition did not improve, so his family took him straight to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases for treatment.

When admitted to the Department of Parasitology, Mr. L. was in a state of mucosal congestion, headache, nausea, obesity, platelet count reduced to only 21 G/L, pleural effusion and ascites. With obesity, the patient's prognosis was quite severe, with a high risk of complications.

Doctor Nguyen Thanh Binh - Deputy Head of the Department of Parasitology, said that as soon as they were admitted to the hospital, all patients were actively treated and their health status was closely monitored every 3 hours. Thanks to early detection and treatment, the health status of all patients has improved and they are now stable.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, in recent days, storms and flooding in many northern localities have increased the risk of dengue fever outbreaks and many infectious diseases. Stagnant water in the environment is an ideal condition for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to breed, causing mosquito density to increase rapidly if not handled promptly.

Doctor Binh recommends that to prevent dengue fever, people need to kill mosquito larvae, clean up their living environment, cover water containers, sleep under mosquito nets, use mosquito repellent and spray chemicals periodically...; When unusual symptoms such as high fever that does not subside, headache, nausea, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, subcutaneous bleeding or prolonged diarrhea appear, people need to go to a medical facility for timely examination and treatment to avoid dangerous complications./.
