The vitality of the OCOP program in Lao Cai province is clearly demonstrated through the diversity of product groups. Leading the way is the food group with 479 products, contributing to bringing the unique flavors of the Northwest mountains and forests to consumers. Followed by other product groups such as beverages (41 products), medicinal herbs (26 products), handicrafts (36 products) and tourism (20 products).
Many OCOP products of Lao Cai are not only known locally but have also "made their mark" on the map of Vietnamese agricultural products. Names such as Suoi Giang Shan Tuyet tea, Muong Lo Seng Cu rice, Tran Yen Bat Tien tea, Gioi Phien vermicelli, or Sa Pa salmon products... are present in supermarket systems and large commercial centers across the country, conquering consumers with their quality and the cultural stories behind them.
Lao Cai's OCOP product display booth always attracts delegates and tourists at fairs.
A significant highlight of the OCOP program in Lao Cai is the widespread participation of cooperatives, businesses, and especially households headed by women and ethnic minorities.
As of July 2025, Lao Cai province had a total of 604 OCOP products with 3 to 5 stars. Of these, 553 were 3-star OCOP products, 49 were 4-star OCOP products, and 2 were 5-star OCOP products. These figures demonstrate the continuous efforts of producers and local authorities in this rural area of the Northwest in enhancing the value of local agricultural products.
Currently, Lao Cai province has 304 entities participating in the production and trading of OCOP products, of which 117 entities are represented by women and 105 entities are ethnic minorities. This not only shows the economic efficiency of the program but also affirms the important role of OCOP in promoting gender equality, creating sustainable livelihoods and preserving and promoting the cultural identity of local ethnic groups.
The success of the OCOP program is making an important contribution to the construction of new rural areas, effectively exploiting the potential and advantages of each land area, thereby increasing income and improving the lives of ethnic minorities in Lao Cai province more and more prosperously and sustainably.
