Lao Cai: 62 more OCOP products receive "star" awards.

From the beginning of 2025 until now, the OCOP program in Lao Cai province has undergone 14 rounds of evaluation and classification of OCOP products throughout the province, resulting in the recognition of 62 new products, exceeding the set plan by nearly 15%, affirming the effectiveness and strong spread of the new rural development program.

The vitality of the OCOP program in Lao Cai province is clearly demonstrated through the diversity of its product groups. Leading the way is the food group with 479 products, contributing to bringing the unique flavors of the Northwest mountains to consumers. Following closely are other product groups such as beverages (41 products), medicinal herbs (26 products), handicrafts (36 products), and tourism (20 products).

Many OCOP products from Lao Cai are not only well-known locally but have also made their mark on the Vietnamese agricultural map. Names like Suoi Giang Shan Tuyet tea, Muong Lo Seng Cu rice, Tran Yen Bat Tien tea, Gioi Phien vermicelli, and products made from Sa Pa salmon... are now available in major supermarkets and shopping malls nationwide, winning over consumers with their quality and the cultural stories behind them.

A significant highlight of the OCOP program in Lao Cai is the widespread participation of cooperatives, businesses, and especially households headed by women and ethnic minorities.

As of July 2025, Lao Cai province had a total of 604 OCOP products achieving 3 to 5 stars. This included 553 3-star OCOP products, 49 4-star OCOP products, and 2 5-star OCOP products. These figures demonstrate the continuous efforts of producers and local authorities in this Northwestern rural region to enhance the value of local agricultural products.

Currently, Lao Cai province has 304 entities participating in the production and business of OCOP products, of which 117 are represented by women and 105 are ethnic minority entities. This not only demonstrates the economic effectiveness of the program but also affirms the important role of OCOP in promoting gender equality, creating sustainable livelihoods, and preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups in the locality.

The success of the OCOP program is making a significant contribution to the construction of new rural areas, effectively exploiting the potential and advantages of each region, thereby increasing income and improving the lives of ethnic minorities in Lao Cai province in a more prosperous and sustainable way.
