With the shift of shopping and business to the increasingly developing digital environment, in recent times, the Tax Department of Khanh Hoa province has had many solutions to manage and tighten tax collection from individuals and organizations doing business on e-commerce platforms and digital platforms. Thanks to that, the revenue from e-commerce activities in the province in the first months of the year recorded a high increase compared to the same period last year.

Revenue increased by 224%

E-commerce activities are growing strongly with the consumer trend shifting to online shopping, so more and more organizations and individuals choose to do business on e-commerce platforms, social networks, websites or via mobile applications. Since then, revenue in this field has increased rapidly, creating a basis for the provincial Tax Department to increase state budget revenue. In addition, the provincial Tax Department has promoted tax management in this field such as: Proactively reviewing and comparing data from banks, shipping units, e-commerce platforms, e-wallets, etc.; strengthening inspection, examination, and strict handling of violations in tax declaration and payment.

In addition, the awareness of tax law compliance of individuals and organizations doing business on e-commerce and digital platforms has increasingly changed positively. Many businesses have voluntarily registered, declared and fulfilled their tax obligations in accordance with regulations. The system of tax law regulations for e-commerce activities is increasingly complete and clearer. A number of new policies have specifically stipulated the responsibility to deduct, declare and pay taxes on behalf of individuals doing business via digital platforms, helping tax collection to take place smoothly.

By the end of June, the province had reviewed and inspected 1,652 businesses and individuals operating on e-commerce and digital platforms for tax management; and at the same time, managed 3 organizations that are owners of e-commerce platforms that are still operating. Thereby, the provincial Tax Department collected a total of more than 433 billion VND in taxes in the first 6 months of the year from organizations and individuals operating on e-commerce and digital platforms, an increase of 239.8 billion VND, equivalent to an increase of 224% over the same period in 2024.

Tighten tax management for online business

In addition to the achieved results, tax management for business activities on e-commerce platforms and digital platforms still has difficulties and limitations such as: Many taxpayers do not register their business or tax, do not have a clear business address or residential address, the name registered online is different from the real name on the documents, intentionally do not declare or do not fully declare documents related to determining revenue... leading to lack of information to identify business entities and revenue for tax management... Therefore, in the coming time, the provincial Tax Department will continue to coordinate with e-commerce platforms to collect seller information, promote the application of digital technology in revenue monitoring and strengthen propaganda to raise tax compliance awareness of individuals and organizations doing business online. In particular, strictly implement the direction and guidance of the Tax Department on the implementation of the Electronic Information Portal for business households and individuals to register, declare and pay taxes from e-commerce activities and business on digital platforms, ensuring 100% review and support for business households and individuals to implement. In addition, based on data provided by e-commerce platforms, banks, and shipping units, the tax authority will apply risk analysis technology, focusing on checking business households with signs of false declaration.

For businesses not operating on e-commerce platforms, tax authorities closely coordinate with relevant units (banks, market management, telecommunications and electricity service providers) to collect data on transactions, cash flow and actual revenue. At the same time, strengthen inspection and examination against tax losses to promptly detect and correct tax fraud, put tax management for e-commerce business activities in order, ensure that organizations and individuals voluntarily declare and pay taxes, ensure correct, sufficient and timely collection to the state budget.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tu - Head of the Provincial Tax Department said: “Recently, the Government issued Decree No. 117/2025 on tax management regulations for business activities on e-commerce platforms and digital platforms. This is a major adjustment in tax management to increase the efficiency of tax collection for online business activities. We have directed specialized departments and grassroots tax departments to focus on propaganda so that organizations and individuals doing e-commerce business understand and implement. The tax authority recommends that business owners, legal representatives of enterprises, households and individuals doing e-commerce business and doing business on digital platforms need to proactively approach and learn about tax laws and comply with tax registration, declaration and payment as prescribed. The tax sector will review and compare the database source with the tax declaration and payment situation of organizations and individuals doing e-commerce business activities. In case of not receiving cooperation from taxpayers, the tax sector will inspect and strictly handle business activities that do not comply or do not fully comply. fulfill tax obligations as prescribed. In cases of intentional non-compliance, the tax authority will consolidate the records and transfer them to the competent authority to investigate and handle tax evasion in accordance with the provisions of law.
